đŽ Script 8:22 Konets (âThe Endâ)
Brief (Where weâre at):
Red spirited Liz away to the âepicenterâ of The Blacklist ~ an intelligence gathering operation located in a Cold War era, nuclear blast resistant bunker in Latvia ~ to tell her âthe truthâ about who she is, who he is and what happened to her mother. He does this, through the magic of cinema, by telling a story which is narrated by key people in the series, living and dead. They include her mother Katarina Rostova (at about 35yo), her father the real Raymond Reddington, Red and Katarinaâs friend Ilya Koslov, Katarinaâs mentor Ivan Stepanov and lastly, Tatiana Petrova who we and Liz find out â for the first time â was not Lizâs mother but another operative resembling her who also took assignments from Lizâs grandfather Dominic (Dom) Wilkinson.
Â
It was Tatiana, not Domâs daughter Katarina, who was set up to be killed by a car bomb in Belgrade. Dom planned that Tatiana would be killed, so that the KGB, Neville Townsend snd others would believe the real Katarina had died so theyâd stop hunting her. But Tatiana escaped the blast with her life though her husband was killed. The KGB and others still wanted her so Tatiana hid, eventually getting help from Red. Red and Tatiana apparently then struck up a romantic relationship, so years later, she âbetrayed him with a kissâ before injecting him with Ketamine, and torturing him unsuccessfully for information to prove she had been set up by Dom. When that didnât work, she insinuated herself into Lizâs life gaining access to Dom who, under torture and having hallucinations, told her âeverything,â not only that Red was N-13, but Katarinaâs new identity and location. Red intercepted Tatiana before she could tell the Townsend organization, and killed her. The murder was witnessed by Liz. Believing that Tatiana was her mother Katarina, Liz then went on a rampage against Red, which eventually landed her at the #1 spot on The Blacklist.
Â
But if Tatiana wasnât Katarina â who Red says remains âhiddenâ â where/who is Katarina today? And who is Red?
Â
In Latvia, Red admitted to Liz that he is N-13, the operative who acquired the Sikorsky Archive, the 13 packets of classified information taken from the KGB files when the Soviet Union fell. This information was the âseedâ from which Redâs global operation grew. This operation, Red tells Liz, has two purposes: to keep Liz safe and her mother hidden. He insists he is ânot a Russian asset and Ivan Stepanov is just an old friend.â In the story told by Red and narrated by Katarina and Ilya Koslov, Katarina and Ilya âcreatedâ Red because Katarina didnât want Liz to bear the burden of having killed her father; and so that Red could keep a protective eye on Liz. So Katarina and Ilya âresurrectedâ the identity of Raymond Reddington. But someone went under the knife to have plastic surgery and itâs not clear who. There are even hints that it might have been Katarina herself, which would solve two problems: who Red is and where Katarina went. But â wow.
Â
In any case, right when Liz was insisting on finally getting these answers, reality intervened. Liz was shot through the upper abdomen in a hail of gunfire as Neville Townsendâs men raided the facility. (Liz forgot to turn off the tracking chip that allowed Townsend to track her and Red to Latvia.) Townsend reverted to his prior dastardly plan of killing Liz as Red watches, so whatever Lizâs take on Redâs latest version of events, that was put aside. They were on the same side now. Red got up from assisting Liz to talk to Townsend, leaving his pistol within reach of Liz. She took the hint and shot Townsend in the leg, allowing her, with help from Red and Dembe, to retreat to a super-hardened âNestâ beneath the bunker. The Nest is capable of withstanding a 20 megaton nuclear blast. Itâs also equipped with the means of incinerating intruders above. So, Townsend is toast â but his henchman Vandyke was outside of the bunker and will likely be seen again.

Â
[ The epicenter of Redâs operations, a Cold War era bunker in the countryside outside Riga, Latvia ]
[ Under assault by Neville Townsend and his mercenaries, Red, a wounded Liz, and Dembe retreated to The Nest, a super-hardened core capable of withstanding a 30 megaton nuclear blast. Once safe inside, Red unleashed a flammable gas in the complex above and lit it on fire ]
[ Itâs a few hours later. The lock on The Nestâs hatch turns ] [ Creaking ]
[ Dembe emerges from The Nest. The destroyed room is still full of smoke. He looks around and finds the remains of a human being. He lifts the corpseâs hand and photographs the fingerprints ] [ Beepđ
]
[ Red helps Liz, who was shot through the upper abdomen, out of The Nest ] [ Grunting ]
Red: Down.
[ Liz sits down ] [ Groaning ]
[ Dembeâs phone beepsđ
] [ Itâs a match ]
Dembe: Itâs him. Itâs Townsend.
Liz: We should go. There could be others.
Dembe: Iâll call Edward, tell him to have a medical team standing by.
Red: Can you walk?
Liz: Walk? Townsendâs dead. I could fly.
[ Liz gets up ] [ Grunts ]
Â
[ In Redâs plane, Redâs Doctor has examined Liz ]
Redâs Doctor: The bullet went clear through. No organs were damaged. She should be fine.
Red: Thank you. Have yourself a drink. Make it a double. You deserve it.
Dembe: [ To Red ] You deserve it, too. You won.
Red: I wish there was time for celebration, but Mother Nature and the criminal world quickly exploit a vacuum. We should set a time to see Harold. And call Dr. Clemons. Thank him for his services and tell him theyâre no longer necessary.
Dembe: Did you find another doctor?
Red: No.
Dembe: Youâre giving up. Why? You just said thereâs another fight to be won.
Red: There is. But it canât really be won unless Iâm gone. Perhaps I will have that drink after all. Toast to better days. [ Gets up and heads toward the galley ]
Â
[ Liz is recuperating at home in DC. Dembe is at her bedside ]
Liz: Will it end when I know? When Reddingtonâs told me the last of it, will I be able to live a normal life?
Dembe: What is normal?
Liz: [ Chuckles ] Not this.
Dembe: We live the lives we are meant to live. I understand you blaming Raymond for how yours turned out. I blame him, too sometimes. But fate takes the laboring oar, in our lives and his. Fate and destiny.
[ Red enters ]
Red: [ Cheerfully ] Ah! Youâre up. Excellent. I have a bit of a surpriseâ
[ Agnes comes running in and leaps onto the bed ]
Agnes: Mommy!
Red: [ Laughs ]
Liz: Hey! Oh! Pumpkin! What are you doing here?
Agnes: It was Pinkyâs idea.
Liz: Pinky?
Agnes: He says his name is Red, but I prefer pink.
Red: I thought sheâd be just the thing, and as it turns out, Mrs. French and I share a great love for Jacques Tati, soâ
Mrs French: [ Chuckles ] How are you, my dear?
Liz: Iâm better now. Thanks to Pinky.
Â
[ The Post Office ] [ Elevator doors open. Red and Dembe get off ]
Aram: Oh. Mr. Reddington.
Red: Aram.
[ Red sees the bunch of helium balloons Aram is filling ]
Red: Nice.
[ Aram inhales from one of the balloons ] [ Air hisses ]
Aram: [ High-pitched voice ] I heard about Townsend. Weâre so relieved.
Red: Whatâs the celebration? Whoâs getting well?
Aram: [ Still high-pitched ] Oh, uh, these are for Agent Ressler. Heâs off the ventilator. The doctors are saying heâs doing so much better.
Dembe: Thatâs good news.
[ Air hisses ]
Aram: Care for a toke? Iâd give almost anything to hear you talk like a member of the Lollipop Guild.
Red: [ Laughs ]
Â
[ Cooperâs office ] [ Knock on door ]
Cooper: Come in.
[ Red and Dembe enter ]
Cooper: What a relief, knowing the threat to Agent Keen is gone.
Red: [ High-pitched voice ] Yes, weâre all quite happy with the way things turned out, Harold.
Cooper: And here I thought that Aram was the only man-child around here. [ To Dembe ] Please tell me youâre above such things.
Dembe: [ High-pitched voice ] I think itâs childish and completely unprofessional.
[ Air hissing ] [ Red and Dembe let their balloons fly away ]
Red: Please indulge our weakness for lifeâs simple pleasures. Weâve come bearing dark tidings.
Cooper: You want to tell me? Or maybe youâd like to do some finger painting first.
Red: [ Normal voice ] I would. More than you can possibly imagine. But unfortunately, Townsendâs death is about to trigger a firestorm of criminal activity. In the absence of a clear successor, everyone will be vying for control of his empire.
Cooper: I assume youâre here to give me a case, that the next name on the Blacklist will be in service to helping you take advantage of the situation.
[ Red gives Cooper a thick manila envelope ]
Red: I do have a bunch of likely contenders for the throne, and, yes, I am giving you them so that someone can take advantage of this situation. But not me.
Cooper: How magnanimous.
Red: Iâve heard that oneâs true colors emerge at the end. Iâd love to think that magnanimity is one of mine.
Cooper: The end? I knew you were sick, but â exactly how bad is it?
Red: Harold, over the years, youâve served as a wise counselor to Elizabeth. Iâd like to know that in my absence that would continue.
Cooper: Raymond. How sick are you?
Red: Do I have your word?
Cooper: Of course. Iâll always do everything I can for Elizabeth.
Red: Thank you. Youâre a good friend.
[ Door opens ] [ Red and Dembe leave ]
Â
[ Dembe and Red descend the yellow metal stairs ]
Dembe: Is this really necessary?
Red: Itâs the best way I can think of to ensure her protection.
[ Elevator button clicks â” ]
Dembe: Your blood tests are better. The treatment is working. Youâre getting better, not worse.
Red: Iâm dying. Whether itâs this year or the next doesnât matter. What Iâve got doesnât go away. It just takes a pause, regroups, and comes back stronger, deadlier.
[ Elevator doors clang open ]
Â
[ Red enters Lizâs bedroom. She is sitting up in a chair ]
Red: Whereâs Agnes?
Liz: Mrs. French took her to the park. Thank you for bringing her here. That was very thoughtful.
[ Red takes a seat on the bed, facing Liz ]
Red: The conversation weâve been having. Or trying to have. About who I am and why I came into your life.
Liz: How my mother got you to watch over me.
Red: Your mother. Yes. She foresaw this moment.
[ He takes an envelope out of his vest pocket ]
Red: The answers are here. In a letter she wrote to you.
Liz: Why do you have a letter my mother wrote to me?
Red: For when the time was right, to let you know the truth.
Liz: I think we can both agree itâs long past time.
Red: One condition remains.
Liz: No. No conditions.
Red: One task. Then itâs done.
Liz: What could possibly be left for me to do?
Red: To take my life.
Liz: ââ What do you mean?
Red: I mean literally and metaphorically. Iâm dying. Youâve known for a while that Iâm sick. Before I die â I need to make sure youâre protected.
Liz: A-And how will killing you do that?
Red: By showing the world that youâre a force to be reckoned with, that you did what no one else could â no law enforcement agency, no criminal rival. You found and executed Raymond Reddington.
Liz: Y-You know I donât want to take over your empire.
Red: I do. And under other circumstances, I wouldnât want you to. But Neville Townsend learned certain things about me, things that we should assume others now know as well. Iâm afraid that people will come for you just like Townsend did. It took all of our strength to fight him. Youâll need help to fight the others. This is a way to get it.
[ Red turns the envelope over and puts it back inside his vest ]
Red: Itâs quite a story. Full of ambition and hope. Love and loss.
Liz: How does it end?
Red: Youâll find out.
Â
[ At home, Red listens to some light jazz music ] [ Hank Mobleyâs âȘ âdig disâ plays ]
Â
[ In a park, Agnes runs up to Liz ]
Liz: Oh, youâre so cute! Ohh! I could just squeeze you like this forever.
Agnes: Whereâs Pinky?
Liz: Wellâ I donât know where Pinky is. I never quite know where Pinkyâs gonna show up next.
Agnes: Heâs funny. He tells me stories.
Liz: Oh, yeah? What kind of stories?
Agnes: About a Russian princess. She doesnât want to be a princess, but other people keep telling her itâs her destiny.
[ Liz gets down on her knees ]
Liz: What do you think she should do?
Agnes: Mom, sheâs a princess! [ She spins around like a ballerina ] [ Giggles ]
Â
[ Liz talks to Mrs French in the park ]
Liz: I got train tickets for 4:00 p.m. Iâll meet you at the station. Got some people I want to say goodbye to. It wonât take long to close up the apartment in New York, and weâll sleep on the jet and be in Europe by this time tomorrow.
Mrs French: This will be so good for you two. To get away from it all.
Liz: Yeah. I hope so.
Â
[ Red at home; jazz music continues ]
Red: Weâve had some times.
Dembe: We have.
Â
[ Cooper walks along a sidewalk ] [ A car pulls up ]
[ Horn honking ] [âĄïžBrakes squeal âĄïž]
Liz: Get in.
[âĄïžTires screechâĄïž]
Liz: Have you spoken to Reddington?
Cooper: I knew he was sick, but I had no idea it was this severe.
[ Engine shuts off, gearshift clicks ]
Liz: He asked me to take over for him.
Cooper: Iâm not surprised.
Liz: I said no. Iâmâ Iâm leaving. Weâre gonna get away. [ Sniffles ] I wanted to tell you in person and thank you for everything that youâve done.
Cooper: So your mindâs made up? About taking over for Reddington?
Liz: Well, is there a decision to make?
Cooper: Thereâs so much I want for you. Above all, I want you to be safe. Right now youâre a fugitive on the Most Wanted List. If you took over for Reddington, inherited the Blacklist, I could probably convince Panabaker to give you immunity. Youâd be protected. Youâd have a reason for taking over that you could feel good about. We could still work together. Taking over for Reddington has risks, physical and emotional. Both of those concern me. But you not doing it concerns me more.
Liz: Howâs Ressler?
Cooper: On the mend. Worried about you.
Liz: Yeah, I want to see him.
Cooper: Probably safer to call.
Liz: Yeah. Whereâs the fun in that?
Â
[ Inside the hospital, Liz grabs some scrubs from a cart. She reaches into a closet and grabs a lab coat and stethoscope. She finds Resslerâs hospital room and climbs into the bed alongside him ]
Ressler: [ Wakes up, sighs ] Hey.
Liz: I heard youâre feeling better.
Ressler: Well, I am now.
Liz: [ Breathes deeply ] Iâve got a decision to make.
Ressler: Cooperâs wrong.
Liz: He called you?
Ressler: Youâre not like Reddington, okay? Youâre better. Look. Youâre good. Too good to do what he wants you to do.
Liz: I donât feel good.
Ressler: Youâre not a criminal. Okay? Pretending to be one is not gonna keep you safe.
[ They kiss ]
Â
[ The Post Office ] [ Cooper, Aram and Park are going over the background information Red gave them ]
Cooper: Russian mob. Serbians. Italians. Chinese. And a few Americans and Brits thrown in for good measure. All of them did business with Townsend, and, according to Reddington, they all want a piece.
Aram: And Mr. Reddington doesnât?
Park: Lemme guess, he wants us to move on the United Nations of Crime so he can take over.
Cooper: Yes, but not for himself. For Elizabeth, so she can take over.
Aram: Thatâs not funny.
Cooper: It wasnât meant to be.
Aram: But she canât. I meanâ Even if she could, she wouldnât. Would she?
Park: Eh, why would he let her? What would he do? Go play golf?
Cooper: Reddingtonâs sick. He wouldnât say with what, but itâs clearly terminal.
Aram: Wait. Mr. Reddington? Butâ He alwaysâ He always seems so invulnerable.
Cooper: He isnât. Neither is Elizabeth. If she decides to take over for Reddington, sheâs going to need our help. Starting with a workup on the people in this folder.
Â
[ A train station ]
Liz: [ On phone ] Iâm in the chairs next to the escalators.
Woman on PA : All passengers travelingâ
Liz: Okay. Iâll see you soon.
[ Woman speaking indistinctly on PA ]
[ A young woman, Beth Ryker, walks over ]
[ Lizâs cellphone snaps shut ]
Liz: Excuse me?
Beth Ryker: Iâm sorry. I donât mean to stare. Are you Agent Keen? Elizabeth Keen?
Liz: Do we know each other?
Beth: Uh, Beth Ryker. Daniel Rykerâs my dad. General Ryker.
[ Flashbacks: ]
[ Beth at ballet class ]
ââ
[ Liz and Beth in a car being crashed đ„âŒïžđ„ by a semi ]

[ Liz talks to Beth in the National Zoo. Beth has a bomb inside her backpack. A colleague of Redâs works to disarm the bomb ( From Episode 1:1 ) ]
Beth: He said not to take it off.
Liz: Oh, my God. That canât be you.
Beth: I-I think about you all the time, what you did.
Liz: Uhâ
Beth: You saved my life.
Liz: You were a very brave little girl.
Beth: You probably donât remember the story you told me, about the scar your dad gave you, how it was â your secret weapon.
[ Flashback: ]
Liz: Well, whenever Iâm feeling sad or afraid, I just touch it like this, and it makes me brave. Do you want to see if it can make you brave?
Beth: Yeah?
[ Rapid beeping đ đ đ đ đ đ ] [ Redâs colleague cuts a wire, inactivating the bomb ]
[ Beeping stops ]
Liz: I left the Bureau.
[ Awkward silence ]
Beth: What do you do now?
Liz: Iâm trying to figure that out.
Man on PA: The Keystone Service 3:45 to Philadelphia now boarding on Track 9. Keystone Service 3:45 to Philadelphiaâ
Beth: Thatâs my train.
Man on PA: Now boarding on Track 9.
Beth: I canât believe it was really you.
Man on PA: All aboard.
Liz: Thanks for saying hello.
Beth: My dad told me that if you hadnât defused that bomb, thousands of people would have died. Most people just â I donât know, live their lives. But you made the world a better place. So whatever you decide to do, I really hope youâll keep doing that.
[ Liz makes a phone call ]
Â
[ Cellphone buzzing ] [ Beepđ
]
Red: [ Sighs ]
Dembe: Elizabeth.
Liz: Tell him I want to meet hear him out.
Dembe: Okay. Hold on. [ Beepđ
]
Dembe: [ To Red ] She wants to discuss your proposal.
Red: Okay. Tell her weâre in New York.
Dembe: [ Beepđ
] Can you meet in New York? ⊠Iâll text you.
[ Beepđ
] [ Cellphone snaps shut ]
Red: Is it wrong, whatâ what Iâm asking her to do?
Dembe: Itâs not that simple. Right and wrong have never been simple in your life. You love her, and you want to keep her safe. Youâre desperately trying to do that.
Red: I wonder if it makes any difference.
Â
[ Mrs French brings Agnes to meet Liz ]
Liz: Ohh! Hi, baby. Whoâs ready to go to New York?
Â
[ Birds singing ]
[ A park in New York ] [ Red looks up through the tree branches ] [ Dembe walks up to him with Liz ]
Dembe: Raymond.
Red: [ Rising ] Ah. Elizabeth. Thank you for coming. I understand youâve given some thought to my proposal.
Liz: I have.
Red: And?
Liz: I need you to explain something to me.
Red: Please. [ Motioning to sit on the park bench ]
Liz: If we go through with this, if I actually do this â what makes you think itâs gonna work? Me, as your heir? Why do you think people are gonna accept that?
Red: Theyâll accept it when Iâm dead in the street. Theyâll accept it because youâre a criminal.
Liz: Is that what I am? Or is that what I am because of you?
Red: Iâve considered that question, so many times. How things might have been different if I had never re-entered your life. Would you be safer? Happier? Was it, uh, my presence alone that brought you to this crossroads? Or maybe none of that ever mattered. Maybe you were born to this out of a lie, the daughter of a spy, genetically predisposed to deception and danger. I donât know. Iâve thought and thought about it. And I just donât know. What I do know is that â whether itâs chance or karma, DNA or fate, or just bad luck â this is where you are now. This is who youâve become. A criminal. A fugitive. And taking my life â is a way forward.
Liz: Hm. ââ Humor me. How would it work?
ââ
[ Red and Liz stroll down a broad lane in the park ]
Red: The restaurantâs been undergoing renovations for over a year now, and weâll be opening soon. But first, Pascualâs having a little soirĂ©e for family and friends tomorrow night. Iâll be there, as will Dembe. Weâll have dinner, see some friends. By 1:00, I suspect things will be winding down. The families will be gone. Iâll say my goodbyes and exit. Dembe will stay back, thank Pascual. Youâll be waiting in your car parked down the street with a clear view of the entrance.
[ Birds cawing ]
Red: It should happen on the sidewalk, right in front of the restaurant â and happen fast. By the time the police respond, youâll be long gone. Iâm quite sure Pascual will have to show them to the CCTV footage. And, of course, itâll be leaked. And within hours, the image of you standing over my body will be on the front page of every major newspaper in the world.
Liz: Youâve really thought this through.
Red: Yes.
Liz: Tomorrow night.
Red: Yes. ââ What?
Liz: [ Chuckles ] Of all the times Iâve wanted to kill you. I donât think I can pull the trigger.
[ ReneĂ© Dominiqueâs â« âSomewhere Only We Knowâ plays ]
[ ⏠Go to Full Lyrics ] or [ âȘ Tap square below to play âȘ ]
Red: Letâs not worry about that. Not now. Letâs just be.
Liz: That sounds nice.
[ They hold hands and continue walking ]
âȘ I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete âȘ
[ Mrs French and Agnes are sitting on a bench by a pond talking. Agnes sees Liz and runs to get a big hug ]
âȘ Oh simple thing where have you gone?
Iâm getting old and I need something to rely on
[ Red buys everyone frozen fruit pops ]
So tell me when youâre gonna let me in
Iâm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin âȘ
[ Agnes sits alongside Red at the edge of the pond, guiding a miniature remote-controlled sailboat. Ducklings ride on a wooden raft ]
âȘ I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that Iâve been dreaming of? âȘ
[ At the Central Park Conservancy, Red stares at the large José de Creeft sculpture of Alice in Wonderland ]
âȘ Oh simple thing where have you gone?
Iâm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when
[ Red and Liz watch from a park bench as Agnes climbs on the Alice sculpture with other children ]
Liz: You said you made a promise to my motherâ
âȘ youâre gonna let me in âȘ
Liz: âthat youâd dedicate your life to keeping me safe no matter what.
Red: I did.
âȘ And I need somewhere to begin âȘ
Liz: Why? Who was she to you?
âȘ And if you have a minute, why donât we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything âȘ
[ Liz takes out the photo of herself and her mother on a swing when Liz was a small girl, the photo in which her motherâs face is obscured by the glare of the sunlight ]
Liz: This photo. There was someone standing behind the lens, holding the camera. Was it you? You were there, werenât you?
âȘ Somewhere only we know âȘ
Red: I was there.
Liz: You knew her well.
Red: Better than anyone.
âȘ Oh, simple thing where have you gone?
Iâm getting old and I need something to rely on âȘ
Liz: Fine.
âȘ So tell me when âȘ
Liz: Iâll do it.
âȘ youâre gonna let me in
Iâm getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin âȘ
Red: ââ [ Quietly ] Okay.
Liz: But in exchange, I have to ask you a question, and I need you to give me a straight answer.
Red: Okay.
âȘ Talk about it somewhere only we know? âȘ
Liz: You said I canât see my motherâs letter, that I canât know who you are until after youâre gone and my future is cast.
Red: Yes.
Liz: Why? Why canât I know who you are until after youâre dead?
Red: Because if you knew beforehand, youâd never agree to kill me.
âȘ Somewhere only we know âȘ
Â
[ Red and Dembeâs place ]
Red: Letâs go through it again.
Dembe: Weâve been through this.
Red: Please.
Dembe: [ Breathes deeply ] The evening ends. You go. I hang back to thank Pascual. Elizabeth will be waiting in her car down the street. St. Vincent is the responding hospital. Our man on the inside will handle transport via their ambulance. The city will never take possession of your body.
Red: And the remains?
Dembe: Spread over the Yenisey [ A river in Siberia ]. Raymond, weâve been through this.
Red: And then you get whatâs yours. All of it.
Dembe: Yes.
Red: No less.
Dembe: Yes, I know, Raymond. Are you sure about this?
Red: Elizabeth is a fugitive. The only way for her to survive this world is to become part of it, to become bigger than it, stay ahead of it.
Dembe: And youâre prepared to die to make that possible.
Red: Iâm always prepared to die.
[ Cup clinks ]
Â
[ The Post Office ] [ Aram walks near his workstation ] [ Cellphone ringtone plays âš ] [ Indistinct conversations ] [ Ringtone continuesâš ]
Aram: Hello?
Liz: Aram, itâs me.
[ Liz is driving ]
Aram: Liz.
Liz: Listen. I donât have much time.
Aram: Uh, we may have a lead on some of the criminals moving in to pick over Townsendâs legacy.
Liz: Good. I hope you get them.
Aram: Mr. Cooper thinks you should replace Mr. Reddington. Ressler doesnât. If youâre looking for a vote to break the tie, Iâm with Ressler.
Liz: I know. Thatâs not why Iâm calling.
Aram: I wonât help you. I know I have in the pastâ But I wonât.
Liz: I wouldnât expect you to. Thatâs not what I want. What I wantâ what Iâm hoping for is that you can find it in your heart to forgive me for the things Iâve done, for what Iâm going to do, what I have to do.
[ Line clicks â” ] [ Cellphone beepsđ
]
ââ
[ Aram walks over to where Park is with Cooper ]
Aram: I just spoke to Liz.
[ Park ends the call she was on ] [ Phone beepsđ
]
Aram: Umâ She asked for my forgiveness.
Cooper: Given her choice, thatâs perfectly understandable. Agent Park, have you reached Reddington?
Park: No, and I called his restaurant. Somebody answered, said theyâre opening in a few days, but tonightâs a private party.
Â
[ Red and Dembeâs place ]
Red: When all this began, I was such a different person. Blinded by passion and inexperience. What we built â itâs been fulfilling in ways that I canât even begin to describe. Itâs been a wonder. Thrilling and challenging. A blessing and a curse. Whatever itâs been â itâs become who I am. But at some point, it became clear to me that I wasnât really in control of any of this. I thought I was. At times, I-I feel like I am. But Iâm not.
ââ
[ Liz has been sitting on her bed. She gets up, goes over to a chest of drawers, and takes out a pistol ]
ââ
Red: No matter how much I try or care or give of myself â I have no control over how any of this ends. And that is crushing if I think about it too much. So I donât think about it. I ignore it, deny it, and try to convince myself that I can keep Elizabeth safe, Agnes safe, which is why I-I feel I have to do this. I have to believe that I can helpâ Because the alternative is juâ Itâs justâ
Dembe: I understand.
Red: I know you do.
[ Red gives Dembe the envelope with Katarinaâs letter ]
Red: Only when Iâm gone. Give it to Elizabeth, but only when Iâm gone.
ââ
[ Liz rises and sticks the gun in the back of her jeans ]
ââ
[ Red rises from his chair ]
Red: You ready?
Dembe: No.
Red: Me neither. [ He puts on his fedora ] Letâs go.
Â
[ Liz is parked in her car, talking to Agnes ]
Agnes: Whatâs wrong, Mom?
Liz: Oh, nothing. Iâm justâ Iâm just sad. But Iâll be okay. We had such fun in New York, didnât we?
Agnes: Why are you sad?
Liz: Well, uhâ Someone that I care about is sick. Heâsâ very sick.
Agnes: Did he see a doctor?
Liz: No. Unfortunately, the doctors canât help him get any better.
Agnes: Is he gonna die?
Liz: Yeah, honey. He is.
Agnes: That is sad.
Liz: Yeah. But I think my friend is trying to be brave. I think he feels fortunate.
Agnes: Whatâs âfortunateâ?
Liz: Well, I think my friend knows heâs lived a good life that heâs seen a lot of neat and different places and he has a lot of friends that love him.
Â
[ Dembe is driving Red to the restaurant ]
Red: Dembe, will you stop the car, please?
Dembe: Whatâs the matter?
Red: I want to walk.
Dembe: Itâs not safe.
[ Dembe pulls over; Red gets out ]
Red: Iâll meet you at the restaurant.
[ Red walks along the sidewalk, looks around, looks up at the sky, reaches out his hand to touch some flowers ]
Â
Liz: So even though heâs sad heâs gonna die he feels fortunate that heâs lived a good life.
Agnes: Your friendâs blessed.
Liz: Yeah! Blessed! Where did you learn a word like that, smartie?
Agnes: You always say that even though Daddy had to go to Heaven, he was okay with that because he felt blessed to know me when I was a little baby.
Liz: Yeah. I think my friend feels blessed, like Daddy.
Agnes: I feel blessed because of you.
Liz: [ Voice breaking ] Oh, honey. Me too. Iâm blessed because of you. And donât forget, no matter what happens, I love you to the moon and back.
Agnes: I love you, too. More than hearts.
Liz: One more sleep, okay? Iâll see you in the morning.
Agnes: [ Smooches the phone ]
[ Cellphone beeps ]
Â
[ Indistinct conversations ]
[ Red is at Pascualâs. There is much activity but Red seems disconnected from it ]
Â
[ Ressler talks to Cooper from his hospital bed ]
Ressler: No, I spoke with Keen myself â She turned Reddington down, said she was gonna leave the country. I think she already left.
Cooper: Except she hasnât. Elizabeth phoned Aram. Sheâs in DC. She also asked for his forgiveness.
Ressler: Forgiveness? For what?
Cooper: Your guess is as good as mine. But I fear it has something to do with Reddington positioning her to be the heir to his criminal empire.
Ressler: So he convinced her. But now theyâre gonna need to convince the world.
Cooper: I donât follow.
Ressler: Look, you and I both know the people who work in Reddingtonâs world arenât gonna accept Keenâs taking of the reins just because he announced it. If he wants her to be taken seriously, if sheâs gonna be respected in his world, sheâs gonna have to make a statement, demonstrate her value.
Cooper: Which is why sheâs gonna need Aramâs forgiveness.
[ Park and Aram enter ]
Cooper: Agent Ressler, Iâm putting you on speaker with Park and Mojtabai.
Aram: Whoa! Hey! Hey! Good news! Yeah, whatâs that?
Ressler: What do you mean?
Aram: Youâre alive. That is incredible news. I-I literally thought you were not gonna make it.
Cooper: Well, thankfully, he did. Do we have any updates?
Park: I still canât reach Reddington, Dembe, or Agent Keen.
Ressler: Oh, my God. Thatâs it. Heâs not gonna make it. Sheâs gonna kill Reddington.
Aram: Wait. Who is?
Ressler: Keen. Sheâs gonna kill him. Sheâs gonna make a statement, demonstrate that sheâs no longer an agent.
Aram: Kill Mr. Reddington.
Ressler: Thatâs how sheâs gonna prove to the world that sheâs seizing control of his empire, and sheâs gonna do it in public. Sheâs gonnaâ Sheâs gonna kill him.
Cooper: Reddington was here, talking about his death, talking about taking care of Elizabeth when heâs gone.
Park: Wait. Back up. You think Reddington knows this is happening?
Ressler: No, I think itâs his ideaâ
Cooper: The party. At the restaurant. That son of a bitch is gonna sacrifice himself to save her life.
Aram: We have to get to him. Convince him to call it off.

[ Liz raises her pistol ]
Liz: [ Breathing shallowly ] I canât do it.
Red: [ Kindly, reassuringly ] Thatâs all right.
Liz: [ Voice cracking ] I donât want to.
Red: [ Kindly, encouragingly ] I understand.

Dembe: [ Gently ] Raymond. Raymond, we have to go. Raymond, we must.
[ A final scene flashes by of Katarina looking at newborn Masha. She pulls her close and kisses her ] [ Red kisses Lizâs temple ]
Dembe: [ Louder ] Iâm sorry.
[ Red lowers Liz to the sidewalk and places his hat under her head. Only then does he let Dembe guide him away ]
[ Ressler has rushed through his pain from his hospital bed to try to save Liz. He drops down next to her. Failing to find a pulse, he leans over her protectively as the pool of blood widens ]

â« Somewhere Only We Know
By ReneĂ© Dominique (originally by Keane)âȘ I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me completeâȘ Oh simple thing where have you gone?
Iâm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when youâre gonna let me in
Iâm getting tired and I need somewhere to beginâȘ I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that Iâve been dreaming of?âȘ Oh simple thing where have you gone?
Iâm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when youâre gonna let me in
Iâm getting tired and I need somewhere to beginâȘ And if you have a minute why donât we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why donât we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know?âȘ Oh simple thing where have you gone?
Iâm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when youâre gonna let me in
