đ´ Script 8:17 Ivan Stepanov (â 5)
Brief (Where weâre at):
Redâs âFriend in the Eastâ has been captured by Neville Townsend. Aram and Liz (who showed up without approval by Cooper) identified him on the surveillance video of a meeting place, a cafĂŠ in Paris. The location had been mentioned in messages between Red and âOur Friendâ provided to the task force by Liz, which they decoded using The Russian Knot decryption machine. The FBIâs Russia Desk was able to identify Redâs associate as Ivan Stepanov, known to be in the Russian SVR (foreign intelligence service), and also believed to be a higher-up in the super-secret Russian black ops organization Zaslon.
After IDâing Stepanov, Cooper decided to look the other way while Liz, no longer an agent, moved in to apprehend Stepanov, to question him about whether Red is N-13 and other matters to figure out if Red is a Russian asset. Liz did not share the plan with Townsend, with whom she had formed a partnership, but her communications with Ressler were being monitored by Townsendâs people so they got wind of the plan and moved in first.
Meanwhile, Red has been trying to infiltrate Townsendâs organization. He got the FBI to investigate the case of Kelmund Realty which had been doing money-laundering for the Townsend Organization, an arrangement managed by Nicholas Obenrader (Blacklister #133), a âmanagement consultant for criminals.â When Kelmund ran into trouble with the IRS, Obenrader liquidated the firm, employees and all. Nicholas Obenrader was apprehended while in the process of cleaning up a âloose endâ (killing the last living employee). Being transported, purportedly to a CIA site, Obenrader was passed over to Red, who threatened him with the exposure of his client files unless he recommended to Townsend that he hire Redâs choice, Priya Laghari, to fill the position of operations manager in Townsendâs organization. (Red had created the job opening by feeding Townsend information that his current operations manager was scalping his gig workers; so Townsend fired him).
Redâs real purpose, not shared with the task force, was not to spy on Neville Townsend, but to have Priya assassinate him. She was just about to do so, using poison hidden in a ring, when news broke âabout Moscow,â so Townsend excused himself and left abruptly. The news was that Townsendâs crew in Moscow had succeeded in abducting Stepanov, who Townsend believes is, along with Red, responsible for the deaths of his wife and children.

Previously on âThe Blacklistâ:
Â
Agent Alina Park: Whoâs Priya Laghari?
Aram: Only a world renowned thief.
ââ
Priya Laghari: I know who you are.
Red: One job. Thatâs all I need.
ââ
Ressler: If Townsend knew that we were even talking, I doubt that heâd be so understanding.
Liz: Weâre aligned against Reddington.
Townsend: Weâre all aligned against Reddington.
Vandyke: Iâd say she and the feds are aligned against us.
Townsend: Thatâs not what I heard.
ââ
Dembe: Our friend â heâs been taken.
ââ
[ Townsend addresses Redâs Russian associate, Ivan Stepanov ]
Townsend: Do you know who I am? Because I know who you are. Youâre the one who created the archive that destroyed my family.
ââ
Priya Laghari: What do I have to steal?
Red: I want you to infiltrate Neville Townsendâs organization.
ââ
[ Townsend enters to meet the woman he intends to hire ]
Townsend: Priya Laghari.
ââ
Townsend: [ To Ivan Stepanov ] I have a lot of âwhys.â Letâs hope youâre prepared to offer some answers.
Â
Â
[ Neville Townsend looks at a shackled Ivan Stepanov via video link. Stepanov wear a metal collar around his neck, through which Townsend administers shocks using a trigger mechanism ] [âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸]
Townsend: [ Dramatically ] The fancy term for what you and I are experiencing is hypnagogia. A state of threshold consciousness, when youâve been awake too long, where you experience lucid dreams. Some people call them hypnagogic hallucinations. I call them an acid trip without the acid. Iâm having one â just looking at you.
[âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸]
[ Flashback to the murder of Townsendâs family by the Vory (the Russian mafia): ]
[ A teddy bear lies on the floor ]
Young boy: Daddy! Daddy!
Young Neville Townsend: Stop! No! Stop. Please!
Russian: The Vory needs you to know what happens to traitors.
[ Townsendâs older son is shot ] [ đĽGunshotsđĽ ]
â Ugh! Gah!
[ Woman screams ] [ Woman whimpering ]
[ Sobbing ]
Young Townsend: Stop! Please!
Townsend: [ Grunts ]
[ Each time Townsend wants to deliver a shock, he presses a button on the trigger ] [âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸]
Townsend: Youâre incredibly tired, and yet i-insanely alive. Y-Your sensations are on fire. Tactile.
[ Inhales deeply ] Olfactory. Thermal. You experience â synesthesia, where a soundâ takes you to a memory.
[âĄď¸Electricity cracklesâĄď¸]
[ Flashback: ]
Young Neville Townsend: No! Stop!
[ Woman sobbing ]
Young Townsend: Please! Iâm begging you! Donât do this!
Russian: Not the gun.
[ Gasping ]
Russian: She gets the knife.
Young Townsend: Donât do this! You donât have to do this! Please! Please! Please!
[ Knife slices ]
Young Townsend: [ Sobbing ] No! No! No! No! No! Why?! Why?! Why?!
[âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸âĄď¸âĄď¸] [ Crackling stops ]
Townsend: You know who I am â why my family was killed and what Raymond Reddington had to do with it.
Ivan Stepanov: I have nothing to say to you.
Townsend: Not yet. Hypnagogic cognition leads to suggestibility. Sooner or later, when I â suggest you tell me everything you know about Raymond Reddington, youâre going to do it.
[âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸âĄď¸âĄď¸]
Â
[ The kitchen of Redâs restaurant that heâs been using as an office ]
Red: [ On phone ] Itâs none of your business where I am, but suffice it to say, Iâm not in Moscow, so if the generalâs in a meeting, pull him out. [ To Dembe ] Have you spoken with Klebanov?
Dembe: Yes. And Dragic. They think there may be a purge in the ranks.
Red: This isnât about that.
Dembe: Stepanov has enemies.
Red: [ To the person on phone ] What? He canât be reached. Fine. When he can be, tell him heâs off the payroll.
[ Cellphone beepsđ
]
Dembe: This may be a domestic dispute.
Red: Itâs not.
Dembe: It could be anâ
Red: Itâs not! We both know who did this.
Dembe: Elizabeth or Townsend.
Red: Have you heard from Laghari?
Â
[ Townsendâs suite ]
[ Footsteps approach ] [ Priya Laghari walks up to Townsendâs assistant Godwin Page ]
Priya Laghari: I need to speak to him.
Godwin Page: No. You speak with me, and I speak with him. Mr. Townsend is a stickler for chain of command.
Priya: He can spare five minutes. Or he can find someone else to do this job. Iâm a stickler, too.
Â
Dembe: She canât get too close to Townsend.
Red: Sheâs only there to get close to Townsend. She canât kill him with a thought bubble.
[ Cellphone chimesâ¨]
Dembe: Itâs Harold. Heâs here. Involving the Task Force is a mistake.
Red: If Townsend has Ivan, Ivan will talk.
Dembe: And if Harold gets him, he wonât? What Stepanov has to say you donât want anyone to hear, which is why we should extract him ourselves.
Red: We should, but Iâm not convinced we can. And given whatâs at stake, we need all the help we can get.
ââ
[ Harold Cooper enters ]
Red: Thank you for coming quickly, Harold.
Cooper: You made it sound urgent.
Red: An urgent opportunity. To acquire a treasure trove of Russian intelligence.
Cooper: Has someone been turned?
Dembe: Abducted. Ivan Stepanov.
Cooper: Whoâs that?
Red: Stepanov is Zaslon. The most elite, most secretive, most lethal branch of the SVR. Ivan Stepanov knows where all the bodies are buried because heâs the one who buried them.
Cooper: You said he was abducted. Do you have any leads?
Red: I know where he was taken from and when he was taken. Everything else is suspicion. I donât know anything more.
Cooper: Nothing? How about a healthy sense of irony?
Red: You know the irony of irony? Itâs a word you understand but canât possibly define.
Cooper: I can: You asking me to find a missing Russian spymaster.
Red: Or perhaps you letting a wildly inaccurate assessment of me get in the way of finding a man who can divulge secrets of one of this countryâs principal adversaries.
Cooper: The ironies abound.
Red: They do. The question is, what are we gonna do about them?
Â
[ The Post Office ] [ Cooper updates Ressler, Aram and Park ]
Cooper: Weâre gonna do nothing.
Ressler: You told him that?
Cooper: I told him weâd look into it, which we will â As soon as Elizabeth gets the answers sheâs looking for.
Aram: Mr. Reddington really acted as if he and Stepanov didnât know each other?
Cooper: He did, and I acted as if I didnât know that Stepanov was his handler.
Aram: Okay, letâs say Liz gets Stepanov to admit he works with Mr. Reddington. What exactly does that prove?
Park: Besides that heâs a traitor?
Aram: Heâs a facilitator. The concierge of crime. Heâs built an empire by not taking sides. Look, I know heâs probably N-13, which means he traffics in stolen intel, but I also know itâs a safe bet that heâs used some of that intel to give us over 150 Blacklisters, most of whom were committing crimes either in this country or against it.
[ Telephone âď¸ rings ]
Park: This is Park.
Ressler: Are we talking about arresting him or giving him a medal?
Cooper: Right now, neither. Our next move depends entirely on Keen.
Park: Sheâs on line one. Keen. The operator patched her through.
[ Telephone beepsđ
]
Park: [ To Liz ] Weâre here.
Liz: Do you have Stepanov?
Cooper: Us? We sent you.
Liz: I thought you got cold feet, decided I couldnât be trusted, got him yourself.
Ressler: Are you saying that you donât have him?
Liz: I sent a team. By the time they got there, he was gone.
Park: Did Townsend take him?
Liz: I donât know how he could have. I never said anything to him.
Ressler: Stepanovâs a Zaslon agent. I mean, he has enemies, but itâs hard to believe that one of them happened to abduct him right out from under us.
Cooper: The intel we shared with you about how to find Stepanov â You didnât share that with Townsend?
Liz: You told me not to.
Cooper: I did, but these days, when I say âstop,â you usually go.
Liz: I didnât say anything to him, and if he hacked the information, it wasnât from me. Iâm offline.
Park: Youâre talking on a cell.
Liz: On a burner that I change out every day. Even if he wanted to hack my phone, he couldnât.
Aram: This line has NSA-approved end-to-end encryption.
Cooper: You didnât share the information any other way?
Ressler: Yeah, to me. But that was on my Bureau cell. ââ Wait. Thereâs gotta be a different explanation. For Townsend to hack into my phone, it means he knows who I am and was either able to access it or have someone in Tech Services issue me a phone with malware already installed. Pretty hard to believe.
Aram: Well, Mr. Ripley â believe it orâ [ Keyboard clacks ] ânot.
[ Screen reads: âMALWARE DETECTEDâ ] [đ

Park: That means Townsend has Stepanov.
Cooper: Call the CIA station chief in Moscow. See what she knows about the abduction.
Ressler: So much for doing nothing about Reddingtonâs case.
Cooper: He wants us to get Stepanov. If we can do that, the last thing he wants is for us to interrogate him about their relationship. Which is exactly what weâre gonna do.
Â
[ As Priya Laghari waits for Townsend, she tries for the second time to add poison to his drink, this time by adding it to a cup of tea ]
[ Townsend enters ]
Neville Townsend: Miss Laghari, Iâm terribly sorry.
Priya Laghari: Youâre a busy man.
Townsend: I am, and I-Iâm afraid something has come up. Itâs, uhâ Itâsâ [ Chuckles ] Itâs unavoidable.
Priya: Is this what itâs like?
Townsend: Come again?
Priya: Working for you. You come, you go. You summon, I wait. Is this what itâs like?
Townsend: As I explainedâ
Priya: Seems neglectful, donât you think? Especially on our first date.
Godwyn Page: I told Miss Laghari that five minutes was allâ
Priya: Five minutes, yes. Thatâs how long you said I had, and the truth is, I wonât need nearly that long to tell that this isnât going to work if this is how it works.
Townsend: Is that right?
[ Townsend sits down and stirs his tea ]
Priya: You find me, you summon me, you have your people escort me through secret tunnels to get to wherever it is that you are, then you send me away. Feels discourteous.
[ Saucer slides ]
Townsend: Miss Laghari, I want you to work for me. I want to pay you an absurd amount of money to work for me. But with that money comes the understanding that we work on my schedule, and not yours. If thatâs acceptable, youâre enormously rich as of this moment.
If that offer somehow feels â âdiscourteousâ â you see the door.
Priya: So â how rich am I?
[ Townsend leans forward and whispers in her ear ] [ Priya smiles ]
Priya: Iâm all yours. Just let me know when you need me.
ââ
[ Townsend picks up the cup of poisoned tea ] [ He is about to take a sip when Liz barges in ]
Liz: You have Stepanov!
Townsend: Elizabeth.
Liz: You were spying on me so you could grab him and â what â Bring him here?
Townsend: Iâm not sure what youâre referring to, butâ
[ Liz knocks Townsendâs teacup out of his hand ~ itâĄď¸shattersâĄď¸on the floor ]
Liz: Agent Resslerâs phone. The malware! He found it! Youâve been recording me!
Townsend: Yes! The calls youâve made to the FBI behind my back. A lot of people, including Vandyke here, thought I should have put a bullet in your head for the effort.
Liz: We had an agreement!â
[ Liz sees Stepanov on the video screen ]
Liz: Itâs really him.
Townsend: Iâll be seeing him soon. Perhaps youâd like to join. Find out what he knows about Reddington and N-13? In the meantime, no more phone calls to the FBI.
[ Liz hands over her burner phone to Blake Brown ]
Â
[ Priya stands on the sidewalk outside of a tall building ]
Red: [ On phone ] Iâm sorry. Say that again, Priya.
Priya Laghari: I said I wasnât able to fulfill the contract. Heâs still alive.
Red: The other part â About the woman.
Priya: She stormed in, knocked the poison right out of his hand. She was angry about a man â Someâ Someone heâd abducted. Stepanov?
Red: She said that name â Stepanov?
Priya: Yes.
Red: Were you able to see him?
Priya: No.
Red: But you were inside Townsendâs office. They took you there.
Priya: I was. I donât know what floor, but Iâm looking at the building now.
Red: Priya, as soon as we hang up, I need you to text that address to Dembe. You heard what I said, right?
Priya: Iâ I failed. Townsendâs not dead.
Red: Forget Townsend. Right now all I need you to worry about is getting us that address.
Priya: Yeah, but I thoughtâ
Red: The address. Please. And keep an eye on that building until I call you back.
Dembe: Is Stepanov on-site?
[ Cellphone beepsđ
]
Red: I canât be sure, but Townsend has him, and Elizabeth is there.
[ Cellphone chimesâ¨]
Dembe: Itâs on Park Avenue. You want me to assemble a team?
Red: We canât conduct a raid of that size on Park Avenue. But Harold can.
Dembe: If they do and Stepanov is there, theyâll take him into custody.
Red: The risk is well worth the reward of getting Ivan away from Townsend. Unfortunately, getting Harold to act quickly will require reading him in on certain facts I had hoped to navigate around.
[ Red puts on his hat and hurries out, followed by Dembe ]
Â
[ The Post Office ] [ Red and Dembe get out of the elevator ]
Cooper: If this is about the case, weâve gotten nowhere.
Park: The Russians arenât cooperating.
Red: [ Haltingly ] Harold, umâ I havenât told you everything about why I want your help finding â this asset. The truth is, Ivan Stepanov is more than just a Russian intelligence officer. Despite what he does, despite what I do, heâs one of my oldest and c-closest friends. But as of this moment, he is in terrible danger, and I need your help trying to s-save him.
Ressler: What kind of danger?
Red: I believe that Townsend has him at a facility in Manhattan, and if thatâs the case, heâd be well into an interrogation that could put me and Elizabeth and anyone in our sphere of influence in very real jeopardy.
Aram: Wait, hold on. What does Stepanov have to do with Liz?
Red: Ivan has knowledge â About me, my business, my relationships, things I hold close, including things I keep from Elizabeth.
Dembe: Itâs at a building on Park Avenue.
Red: We can worry about how Townsend found him later, but right now, I justâ I need to get him out.
Cooper: Townsend found Stepanov by tapping Resslerâs phone and listening as we helped Keen locate him.
Aram: [ Quietly ] Uh-oh.
Red: Youâve been in communication.
Cooper: We have. We shared an objective.
Red: You have no idea of the harm youâve done.
Cooper: By my count, it would appear youâre the one causing harm by feeding us half-truths, keeping secrets from Elizabeth, making an enemy of Neville Townsend, and now by coming to the FBI to help save your oldest and closest friend who just happens to be a Russian spy.
Red: Harold, I need you to extract him.
Cooper: Whatâs really going on?
Red: Please.
[ Cooper walks toward Red ]
Cooper: This is about more than you being N-13, isnât it? About more than your relationship with the Russians.
Red: Heâs my oldest friend.
Cooper: This is about why you came into her life in the first place.
[ Dramatic music plays ]
ââ
Cooper: Notify the New York Field Office. Tell them we have a situation.
[ Red nods, turns to leave ]
Cooper: Have NYPD put eyes on the address, but keep covert. I donât want to draw attention. Park, see if you can round up a list of the occupants. Aram, reach out to the city of New York.
See if you can pull whatever schematics they have on the building.
[ Red and Dembe get into the elevator ] [ Elevator doors close ]
Â
[ Inside the Post Office elevator ]
[ Dembeâs cellphone ringsâ¨]
Dembe: Itâs Priya.
[ Dembe hands the phone to Red ]
Red: Priya, what is it?
Priya: I think he is leaving.
Red: Whoâs leaving?
Priya: Townsend. And not through the front. Itâs some kind of gated entrance. Theyâve got, like, a caravan.
Red: And youâre sure itâs him?
Priya: Yeah, Iâm sure. And sheâs with him â The woman.
Red: Dembe, you were right. We need a team in New York. Priya, listen to me. I need you to follow them.
Priya: Follow how?
Red: I donât care, just do not let them out of your sight. Do you hear me? You need to follow them.
[ The line of vehicles leaves. Priya gets into a taxi cab ]
Â
[ Cooperâs office ]
Aram: Sir, I ran the list of occupants in the building Mr. Reddington gave us. Fancy law firms, a terrifying number of data-mining companies, and this.
Cooper: Bunning & Flecker?
Aram: A small accounting firm.
Cooper: Townsendâs accountants?
Aram: Maybe.
Cooper: âMaybeâ doesnât get us a warrant.
Aram: Two of their clients are shell companies. The owner is disguised. Now, it could be Townsend. Does âcould beâ get us a warrant?
Cooper: Weâll soon find out.
Aram: Sir, if, uhâ if we do go in, Iâd like to be a part of this. Whatever Stepanov knows, we gotta make it right.
[ Cooper calls Cynthia Panabaker, his higher-up at the Department of Justice ]
Cooper: [ On phone ] Cynthia, Harold, I need you to help me get a warrant.
Â
[ Ressler, Park and Aram enter the offices of Bunning & Flecker, badges flashing. They are folllowed by additional agents ]
Ressler: Donald Ressler, FBI. We have a warrant for the arrest of a Neville Townsend.
Aram: I need you to back away from your computers. Keep your hands where we can see them and listen carefully.
[ Office Worker #1 reaches under his desk and presses a button ]
ââ
[ Blake Brownâs computer chimesâ¨] [ A real-time surveillance feed from the Bunning & Flecker offices comes up on her computer screen ]
Aram: [ Loudly ] Neville Townsend. Elizabeth Keen. Ivan Stepanov. Ring any bells? Anyone?
[ Blake Brown takes her tablet computer and leaves ]
ââ
Office Worker #1: T-Theyâre not clients, if thatâs what youâre asking. Or employees.
Ressler: Stepanov is Russian. We believe he was abducted and, uh, brought here for interrogation.
Office Worker #2: Look at this place. Would you bring anyone here for interrogation?
Ressler: Well, if heâs not here, then someone here knows where he is, as well as Townsend.
Office Worker #1: I told youâ We donât know who that is. Tear the place apart if you want. Youâre not gonna find anything because thereâs nothing to find.
Aram: Thanks for your permission, but weâve got a warrant for that, too. Your hard drives are coming with us.
ââ
[ Elevator bell dings â¨] [ Godwin Page gets off of an elevator ] [ Blake Brown shows him her tablet computer with the live feed ]
Blake Brown: We have a problem.
ââ
Ressler: Weâre gonna bring you into the conference room one by one. Be honest and youâll be good. Lie to us about Townsend, and when we find him, youâre gonna be charged as accessories to his many crimes.

Lead Tech: You know the protocolâ

[ The cab carrying Priya Laghari pulls up to the location where sheâd followed Townsendâs caravan of vehicles. She calls Red whoâs in his Mercedes with Dembe driving ]
Priya: The address is 330 West Webster.
Red: [ Repeats address for Dembe ] 330 West Webster. [ To Priya ] And you saw Townsend go inside?
Priya: Townsend and the woman.
Dembe: Should I notify Cooper?
Red: [ To Dembe ] No, call Chuck. [ To Priya ] Miss Laghari, I need you to listen very carefully. I believe the man that Townsend grabbed â Ivan Stepanov â Is being held in that building. Thatâs why theyâre there. Townsend went there to interrogate him. You must prevent that from happening.
Priya: Me?
Red: Stepanov knows things. If he talks â if Townsend learns certain things â The woman who is with him will die.
Priya: Sheâs with him. She and Townsend went inside together.
Red: She doesnât know what Stepanov is going to say, but I promise you, when he says it, the first thing Townsend will do is kill her. You must get Stepanov out before Townsend can break him.
Priya: I steal jewels, not people.
Red: I wouldnât ask you to do this if I could get there in time, but I canât, which means her life depends on you. I need you to do this. Iâll give you a fortune. I am begging you to do this.

[ The torture room ] [âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸] [ Stepanov grunting ]

Townsend: Normally, I wait for hypnagogia to loosen the tongue, but then I had the naughtiest idea. Why not give you a taste of your own medicine? I know â genius. The IV solution was developed by S Directorate in the SVR. Was SP-117 [ Skip down to âUSSR/Russiaâ ] how you got Yurchenko to talk? And Rybkin? Liz: Raymond Reddington. Tell me about your relationship with him.

Stepanov: [ To Liz ] I canât believe itâs you.
Liz: Is it true you betrayed my mother for Reddington? Let the world believe she was N-13?
Townsend: That she was responsible for taking the documents that led to the death of my family, when it was him. When he was really N-13. You helped Reddington kill Rostova, didnât you? You hoped the truth would die with her. Youâre both responsible for what happened to my family.

[ The accounting firm of Bunning & Flecker ]
Ressler: The SEC filings are being pulled as we speak. I mean, like it or not, the paper trailâs gonna tell the story.
Office Worker #2: What story? I told you â I donât know what youâre talking about.
Ressler: You know more than youâre saying.
ââ
Female Office Worker: No, I donât, and Iâve certainly never heard of a Neville Townsend.
ââ
Office Worker #1: Youâre implying heâs my boss.
Aram: Iâm just asking the question.
ââ
Office Worker #2: And Iâm telling you, thereâs nothing illegal going on here.
Ressler: I donât believe you.
ââ
[ At the computer operation, electronic devices are being fried in the microwave. Paper is being shredded ]
ââ
Office Worker #1: It doesnât matter if you believe me. Thereâs nothing illegal about offshore banking unless itâs done for purposes of tax evasion.
ââ
Female Office Worker: Which this is not.
Aram: Are you sure about that?
Office Worker #2: Positive. And you know what else Iâm sure about? I want my lawyer.
ââ
Female Office Worker: I want a lawyer.
ââ
[ Computer site ] [ Shredder whirring ]
Lead Tech: Come on, quicker!
ââ
Office Worker #1: Say I â did know something. What if I cooperated? What then?
Aram: Depends on what you know.
Â
Liz: What do you mean, Reddington hired you?
Priya: I was contracted.
Liz: You were contracted by Obenrader to perform a service. I set up the pick-up myself.
Priya: Which got me inside the company and close to Townsend.
ââ
[ The Guard who Priya pepper-sprayed and pistol-whipped earlier has regained consciousness. He wipes his eyes and makes a phone call ]
Guard: Vandyke, we got a situation.
ââ
Liz: Youâre saying Reddington sent you to kill Townsend?
Priya: Thereâs been a change of plans.
ââ
Vandyke: Whatâs going on?
Guard: Got a floater, south entry.
ââ
Liz: So, Reddington got rid of the guy who runs heists for Townsend so he could put you in his place, so he could place you inside the organization.
Priya: He said youâre in danger. He said that if Stepanov talksâ
Liz: Wait, how do you know about Stepanov?
Priya: I donât. All I know is that whatever Stepanov says, itâs going to put you in danger.
[ Liz looks at Rocco ]
Liz: You need to come with me.
[ Gun cocks ] [ Vandyke and Townsend appear ]
Vandyke: I donât think so.
Townsend: Hello, Priya. Itâs funny seeing you here. Whatâs going on, ladies?
Liz: Thatâs exactly what Iâm trying to figure out.
Priya: What?
Townsend: Take Miss Laghari away.
Liz: Whatâs going on? Why are you looking at me like that? What are you gonna do to her?
Townsend: Nothing â compared to what Iâm going to do to you.
[ Gunshot đĽ ] [ Rocco is shot ]
[ Vandyke covers Lizâs mouth with a cloth ] [ Muffled groaning ] [ Liz passes out ]
Vandyke: Where you wanna take her?
Townsend: I donât know yet, but we need to move her. If Laghari knows weâre here, Reddington does, too. [ On phone ] Take Laghari to see our friend Mr. Peebs. Have him get her to talk. Find out exactly what she knows.
[ Holy Fuckâs ⍠âMomentâ plays ]
[ ⺠No additional lyrics ] or [ ⪠Tap square below to play ⪠]
Vandyke: What about the Russian?
Townsend: Put a bullet in his head, for all I care. Just make sure nobody finds the body.
[ Liz is seated, but unconscious. Townsend strokes her hair ]
Townsend: Watching you suffer is going to positively destroy him.
ââ
[ âźď¸Crash âźď¸] [ A large armored truck crashes through the door of the garage they are in ] [âĄď¸ Brakes screechâĄď¸] [ The truck is followed by Redâs black Mercedes ]
[ đĽđĽđĽ đĽđĽđĽ Gunfight đĽđĽđĽ đĽđĽđĽ ]
[ Indistinct shouting ]
[ Priya runs with one of Redâs men ]
Redâs man: The truck! Get to the truck!
Priya: The woman â They have her!
[ đĽđĽđĽ Gunfire continues đĽđĽđĽ ]
Redâs man: Keen! Sheâs here!
[ Red finds the room with Stepanov ]
Red: Ah. Cut him free, Chuck.
[ Dembe finds Liz, conscious but groggy ]
Dembe: [ On earphone ] Raymond! Elizabeth is here! Raymond, do you copy?
Red: Yes, Dembe.
Redâs gunman: Sir, we have to go. Sir.
Red: Iâm not leaving him here.
[ đĽđĽđĽ Gunfire continues đĽđĽđĽ ]
Dembe: The guard â Thereâs too many! Ringo, I need you to plug it up!
[ Engine starts ] [ The armored truck pulls in front of the cooler where Red is with Stepanov ]
[ The others make their way to the cooler. Once they are inside, Dembe closes the doors and slides a metal pole between the door handles ]
⪠Talk to me, where I want to be
You can find me, right there
Talk with me, where I want to be
You can say, alright
Where I want to be
Where I want to be
Did you find me alright? âŞ
[ Priya attends to Liz ]
Red: How is she?
Priya: Sheâll be fine.
⪠Where I want to be âŞ
Â
[ The accounting office ]
Ressler: You gonna lawyer up, too? You got nothinâ to say.
[ Knock at door ] [ Aram enters ]
Ressler: Give me a minute.
[ Ressler steps away from the table to talk to Aram ]
Aram: Senior Account Manager just rolled. Claims Townsend keeps a residence in a proxy office on the top two floors.
Ressler: Yeah, but thereâs nothing on the plans.
Aram: No call button on the elevator. Itâs a private, keyed entry.
[ Aram holds up a key card ]
Ressler: Come on.
Â
[ A SWAT team enters Townsendâs residence. The also find the computer room. Employees raise their arms and are arrested and cuffed ]
ââ
[ Ressler finds the video room in Townsendâs residence. It is showing the cooler where Red, Stepanov, Liz, Priya, Dembe, Chuck and others are barricaded ]
Ressler: Aram, I need a trace on a satellite feed.
Â
[ The cooler. Stepanov has been freed from the electrical collar ]
Stepanov: Raymond. You came.
Red: Yes, of course I came. Now we just gotta get out of here.
Â
[ The garage ] [ Townsend walks over to his group of mercenaries ]
Townsend: What do we know?
Vandyke: They took cover, barricaded themselves inside the cooler, and jammed the door from the inside.
Townsend: We know whoâs in there?
Vandyke: Reddington, the Russian, two of his people â maybe more.
Townsend: Keen?
[ Vandyke shakes his head; he doesnât know ] [ Townsend walks over to the cooler ]
Townsend: [ Loudly, dramatically ] Elizabeth? You in there? I do hope youâre in there, Elizabeth, because Iâm gonna need you for this next part, which promises to be rather awful. While you have a moment, I suggest that you and Raymond reflect upon the concept of loss. I know it well. I feel it in every breath I take, every moment that â [ Chuckles ] â that I sleep. Loss became a part of me when I watched my wife and children die before my very eyes! But today, Raymond, Iâm gonna give you that burden! Iâm gonna show you loss! Today, Iâm going to kill Elizabeth while you watch.
[ Liz looks at Red. Red, who has been attending to Stepanov, looks down, then stands up ]
ââ
Townsend: [ To his men ] I donât care what you have to do to get them out of there. Just make sure that Reddington and Keen are alive.
Beans: We got a problem. That was Magnus. Feds raided Park Avenue. They found the penthouse and the proxy office.
Townsend: How long ago was this?
Beans: Dunno, but we should assume thatâ
Townsend: No, no, no, no. Never assume. The fact is, it wonât take long for them to find us here, so your timeline has moved up. But I still want them both alive.
ââ
Liz: [ To Stepanov ] What did you tell him? What could you possibly say to suddenly make me his enemy?
Red: Let him rest.
Liz: What did you say?
Stepanov: Masha.
Liz: Donât â call me that.
Red: Elizabeth, please.
Liz: I know who you are, Ivan. You were my grandfatherâs protĂŠgĂŠ, my motherâs and Reddingtonâs friend.
Red: He needs to rest.
Liz: Is this really what she would have wanted?
Stepanov: Your mother only ever wanted to keep you safe.
Liz: Heâs bleeding. Itâs from the abdomen.
Red: I canât feel an exit wound.
Liz: He needs a doctor right away.
Dembe: Hold this. Ivan, hold this tight.
Red: We canât stay here. We need to go.
Chuck: Go where? Weâre surrounded.
[ Footsteps clanging overhead ] [ Saw whirring âď¸ ] [ A blowtorch đĽ ignites [ Saw whirring âď¸ ]
Dembe: [ On phone ] I need a cube at Kingâs County. No, itâs not for Raymond. Itâs for an associate.
Red: Weâre gonna need an escort.
Dembe: [ On phone ] And an escort. Heavy arms.
Red: Chuck, what do we have for weapons?
Chuck: Got my M4, Dembeâs SIG, your Glock, your Browning. I also have two flash-bangs.
Priya: This. Some sort of electric shock collar. Is that your armored truck outside?
Red: Ringo is in place standing by. What do you have in mind?
Priya: I have a couple of ideas.
Red: Chuck, your knife.
[ Whirring âď¸ continues ]
Liz: Itâs not gonna be long before they come down through that vent.
Dembe: What do we have?
Chuck: Whateverâs left in the Browning. We got two magazines for the pistols. My M4âs got about a half a mag.
Redâs Driver: Fellas, we got movement down here. Be advised, we need to extract.
Chuck: Copy that. Weâre moving as fast as we can.
[ Red cuts open bags of saline solution from Stepanovâs IV supply and pours the water into a tray ] [ Water pouring ]
ââ
[ Two of Townsendâs men set up a military grade armor-piercing rifle đ [See Note] on a stand ]
[ The two men working on the vent lift off a screen ]
ââ
Chuck: Theyâre getting close.
Priya: I need you to give me a weapon. I can help you.
[ Sheâs given a weapon ]
[ Saw âď¸ whirring ]
Priya: Okay, ready. I think.
[ Whirring âď¸ continues ]
Red: Hold. Go!
[ Red tosses a flash-bang ]
[ đĽđĽđĽ Explosion đĽđĽđĽ ]
[ Red tips the tray so the saline solution spills under the door ] [ Priya triggers the electrical collar ]
[ âĄď¸Electricity cracklingâĄď¸ ] [ Men outside the door of the metal cooler standing in the water are electrocuted or stunned ]
[ Everyone inside the cooler heads out for the back door of the armored truck ]
[ đĽđĽđĽ đĽđĽđĽ Gunshots đĽđĽđĽ đĽđĽđĽ ]
â Ugh!
[ They make it to the truck and pile into the back ]
Driver: Letâs go, letâs go, letâs go, letâs go!
[ The super rifle fires đĽâźď¸ ] [ The driver is shot and killed ]
ââ
[ Townsend and Vandyke walk up to the armored truck ]
Townsend: Okay, then. I think weâre done now. Raymond, Iâd like you and Elizabeth to step out of the vehicle.
Red: Elizabeth, do not go out there.
Liz: I have the second flash-bang. I can detonate it and give Dembe a chance to get in the driverâs seat.
Red: Elizabeth, heâ
Liz: Heâs not gonna hurt me if you canât see it.
Red: Heâs insane. You have no idea what heâll do.
Liz: Letâs find out.
Red: Elizâ
[ Liz leaves the truck ]
Townsendâs Merc: Not so fast. Unh-unh. Hand it over.
[ A flash-bang goes off, but itâs not Lizâs ] [ đĽ Explosion đ¨đ¨ ] [ The FBI TAC team has arrived ]
Ressler: FBI! No one move!
[ Grunts ] [ Indistinct shouting ]
[ Vandyke hurries Townsend away ]
[ đĽđĽđĽ Gunfire đĽđĽđĽ ]
Liz: Go, Dembe! Go!
[ Dembe gets into the driverâs seat of the armored truck ]
[ đĽđĽđĽ Gunfire đĽđĽđĽ ]
Agent Park: Put the gun down! Keen, do it now! Show me your hands.
[ Liz slides both her gun and the flash-bang toward Park ] [ The flash-bang goes off ] [ đĽ Explosion đ¨đ¨ ] [ Liz evades capture ]
[ The man now aiming the super rifle at Dembe is shot by Ressler đĽ ] [ The armored truck leaves ]
Ressler: Put it down!
[ đĽđĽ Gunfire continues đĽđĽ ]
Â
[ Radio chatter ]
Man on radio: We got one vehicle southbound.
ââ
[ Red holds Stepanov ]
Red: Itâs all right. Just relax, hold on.
Stepanov: [ Gasping and grunting ]
Â
[ The Post Office ]
Cooper: [ On phone ] We lost Townsend and Keen?
Ressler: And Stepanov. Reddington squirreled him away.
Park: Aramâs piecing together a CCTV trail, see if he can track where they went.
Ressler: Wherever Townsend and Keen went, it wasnât together.
Aram: All right, I lost an SUV headed west through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Ressler: Would have been Townsend. I mean, Reddingtonâs team â They extracted Stepanov and went south. Keen was on foot.
Aram: All right, I got a southbound vehicle crossed into Brooklyn over the Manhattan Bridge before pulling into a building at â 703 Hudson.
Ressler: All right, weâre on our way.
Cooper: Iâll meet you there.
Â
[ Liz is in a vehicle ]
[ Beepsđ
, dialing ]
Liz: Jax, hey. Itâs me.
Jax: Where are you? Whatâs going on?
Liz: Jax, stop. Listen to me. I need you to reach out. Tell everyone â Tell the team to go dark. Call Skip. Have him burn everything.
Jax: Liz, whatâs happening?
Liz: Iâll call you when I know more.
Â
[ Red and Priya watch through the vinyl sheeting of the mobile operating room where Ivan Stepanov is in surgery ]
Priya: I didnât get there in time.
[ Monitor beeping đ
đ
đ
]
Red: I asked you to do something I had no business asking you to do, and you tried to do it. Not many would.
Priya: I have no idea what this is all about, but I can tell how much it matters to you â What happens to him and to Elizabeth. I hope it works out.
Red: Iâm gonna give you a number. Youâll ask for Marvin Gerard. He knows to give you what youâre owed.
[ Priya shows Red a handful of large gems ]
Priya: I got what Iâm owed â And, uh, then some.
Red: [ Laughing ] Oh, my goodness.
Priya: Serves him right for having a safe at home.
Red: Priya, I miss you already.
Priya: I know. [ Chuckles ]
[ Priya leaves ]
Â
[ The Doctor comes out of the operating room ]
Red: How is he?
Doctor: Tired, but stable. We removed the bullet. Heâs lucky. Most people would be in agony, but heâd been pumped so full of barbiturates that he barely felt anything.
ââ
[ Red enters the operating room ]
Red: Doctor says youâre gonna be okay.
Stepanov: I let you down.
Red: No, you didnât.
Stepanov: He knows. I am to blame for that.
Red: If you insist on taking blame, take it for something youâre actually responsible for â me. What I am, I am because of you. You can take the blame for that.
[ Beeping continues đ
đ
]
Stepanov: Sheâs so beautiful.
[ Kings of Leonâs ⍠âThe Endâ plays ]
[ ⏠Go to Full Lyrics ] or [ ⪠Tap square below to play ⪠]
Stepanov: I waited 35 years to meet her. And when I did â [ Tearfully ] I painted a target on her back.
Red: Rest. You have a lot of sleep to catch up on.
Dembe: The FBI is here.
Red: [ Speaking Russian (no subtitle) ]
⪠Running with the streetlights
Laughing at the grave âŞ
[ Indistinct conversation ]
⪠He swears heâs gonna give it up
Itâs never gonna be enough âŞ
[ Red goes over to the Doctor ]
Red: Take very, very good care of him.
⪠When youâre all alone
Thinking about a better day
When you had it in your bones
This could be the end âŞ
Cooper: Weâre taking Stepanov into custody.
Red: Youâll be taking him to the morgue unless you let my team finish working on him first.
Ressler: Thereâs an ambulance on the way. When it gets here, heâs coming with us.
Red: In the meantime, what should we talk about? How about the Russian Knot? My communications with Stepanov? You worked with Elizabeth to decrypt them. You helped her find Ivan.
Park: You mean your Russian handler.
⪠I see you in the evening âŞ
Red: Agent Park, I look forward to the day when youâre as wise as you are aggressive. Until then, I suggest you protect yourself from further embarrassment by saying nothing.
Cooper: Weâve decrypted your messages. We know you worked together.
Red: But you donât know how, so you guess. In my world, thatâs what comes of guesswork.
Ressler: Well, we wouldnât have to guess if you were honest with us.
Red: I am honest with you, Donald â All of you. I told you I was withholding that information because sharing it would put Elizabethâs life in danger. I asked you not to pursue that information, but you went behind my back and pursued it anyway, without being honest with me. And the result of your dishonesty? My oldest friend was shot, Elizabeth is on the run, and Neville Townsend is after her.
Cooper: I make no apologies about tracking down Stepanov. He may be your oldest friend, but heâs also a Russian intelligence agent who weâre about to question. And when he tells us what I think heâs gonna tell us about the damage youâve done to this country, well, since you insist on honesty, weâre gonna arrest you on the spot.
[ Cooper, Ressler and Park enter the vinyl enclosure ]
⪠Once you had the good stuff
Never gonna fill you up
I wanna be the one who
Gives them my world
And gives them all the feeling of it
Just a little taste of it
This could be the end âŞ
[ In the mobile operating suite, medical personnel lean over the operating table. As Cooper, Ressler and Park get close, they see that the table is empty ]
Ressler: [ Angrily ] Out. Get out!
[ The medical staff leave ] [ Cooper walks across the operating suite. Thereâs a back exit ]
⪠This could be the end
This could be the end âŞ
Â
[ Inside Townsendâs SUV ]
Vandyke: Iâm told the Feds got nothing but shredded paper.
Townsend: And about $36 million in precious gems.
⪠âCause I ainât got a home âŞ
Townsend: Issue a new directive for Elizabeth Keen, Donald Ressler, and her whole FBI crew.
Laghari, too.
Â
[ Red talks to Ressler and Cooper ]
Red: Forget Stepanov. Heâs a distraction. Focus on Townsend.
⪠Iâll forever roam âŞ
Cooper: Heâs turned on Elizabeth.
Red: Yes. As well as anyone else I care about. Which believe it or not, includes you, Harold. Weâre all in his crosshairs now. And the only way out is to work together. Iâm willing to do that. Are you?

⍠Season Of The Witch
By Donovan⪠When I look out my window
Many sights to see
And when I look in my window
So many different people to be
That itâs strange
So strange⪠You got to pick up every stitch
You got to pick up every stitch
You got to pick up every stitch
Mmmm, must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch, yeah
Must be the season of the witch⪠When I look over my shoulder
What do you think I see?
Some other cat lookinâ over
His shoulder at me
And heâs strange
Sure is strange⪠You got to pick up every stitch
You got to pick up every stitch, yeah
Beatniks are out to make it rich
Oh no, must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch, yeah
Must be the season of the witch⪠You got to pick up every stitch
Two rabbits runninâ in the ditch
Beatniks out to make it rich
Oh no, must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch
When I go⪠When I look out my window
What do you think I see?

⍠The End
By Kings of Leon⪠I donât want the street lights
Laughing at the grave
He swears heâs gonna give it up
Itâs never gonna be enough⪠I just wanna be there
When youâre all alone
Thinking about a better day
When you had it in your bones⪠This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end⪠I see you in the evening
Sitting on your throne
Youâre playing with a fireball
And post it up against wall⪠I just wanna hold you
Take you by your hand
And tell you that youâre good enough
And tell you that itâs gonna be tough⪠This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end
This could be the end⪠Cos I ainât got a home
⪠Running from the street lights
Shining on the grave
Once youâve had the good stuff
Never gonna fill you up⪠I wanna be the one who
Gives them all a whirl
And gives them all the finger at it
Just a little taste of it⪠This could be the end
