š“ Script 8:14 MisĆØre
Brief (Where weāre at):
Anne, the birdwatching woman who Red met in a park in New York City some months ago ā and who he stood up for a movie date because Dembe thought it would be dangerous to her if Red were to date her ā didnāt disappear from his life after all. He has been making trips to visit her in her hometown of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, and they have formed a romantic relationship. Dembe is still concerned, warning Red that multiple trips create a pattern for his enemies to track. Sure enough, on his sixth trip to see her, Neville Townsend and her merry band of mercenaries decide to join them.
Ā
Before their showing up, Red had shared little about his āother lifeā with Anne. This was enough to make Anneās best friend Lois, a member of the local police force, suspicious and somewhat antagonistic toward Red. She dropped by to talk to Anne about possibly doing a background check on Red. Anne objected that she already knew enough about Red and admitted she loved him, a conversation Red overheard. After Lois left, Red told Anne that Lois was right, but Anne quickly changed the subject to birdwatching and proposed they go out. As Red looked out the window, he saw a suspicious van, and concocted a reason to send Anne into town. He then tracked a man from the van pretending to be checking the ground wires. When Red questioned him, he went for a gun. Red grabbed him and threatened him with a chefās knife.Red: How many are coming?
Water & Power Guy: āā Everyone.
[ Red slices the manās throat ]Red drove to town, grabbed a bewildered Anne and headed to the only place that could possibly assist them: the local police station, where Lois was on duty. Red identified himself as a fugitive, surrendered, and pleaded with Lois, the Police Chief and other officers to take the situation seriously and take Anne to a safe place. But the assault began before Anne could be evacuated. After the police chief was shot by a sniper, Lois was next in charge, and as help was miles away, Lois agreed to let Red help defend the station but promised to arrest him afterward. Most of the defending officers were killed and Lois was shot in the thigh, but Lois, Anne and Red made it to a hardened holding cell just ahead of Neville Townsend and his men. Sirens from the approaching backup units send Townsend scurrying.
Ā
Red applied a tourniquet to Loisās leg, saving her life, but that didnāt stop her from going pointing her gun at him and telling him he was under arrest when he, too, tried to leave. But Anne intervened, standing between Lois and Red.
Ā
When the FBI and area police arrived, Red was gone. Lois and Anne said heād escaped, but when Anne got home, she opened the trunk of the car and there was Red. After hugs, Red advised Anne to go somewhere to hide. She asked why, if she would be in danger anyway, they couldnāt be together:Red: Because what I have to do and how I have to do it, you canāt be a part of that. No one should be a part of that.
[ They kiss, embrace ]As Red drove out of town to link up with Dembe, a song ( ā« āSomewhere Beyond the Seaā by Bobby Darin) came on the radio. It had become their theme song. At the songās dramatic peak, Red suddenly did a U-turn and headed back to Anneās. He opened the door and called her name. Her frightened face appeared. And someone with a gun:
Red: Elizabeth.

[ Note: Many of the āFlashforwardsā in this episode are from the point of view of previous episodes as experienced by Liz, starting from when she went dark, even though they are āFlashbacksā to us. Itās confusing, I know ]
Ā
[ ā³Three months agoāļø ]
[ Liz, Agnes and Skip Hadley, the lawyer/accountant she convinced to leave Redās operation and join hers, are flying in the plane Liz bought with money stolen from Red ]
Skip: You okay?
Liz: Mm.
Skip: Havenāt slept all night.
Liz: Did you connect with Esi?
Skip: I did. Uh, good news and bad news. Good news is Esi made contact with the Fribourg Confidence. Theyāve agreed to extract the drive from Reddingtonās safe deposit box at Key Atlantic.
Liz: Once they get the drive, have Esi deliver it to Cooper. If the intel on that drive can help prove Reddington is N-13, Cooper should know. And the bad news?
Skip: 72 hours ago, you were an FBI agent. Now youāre on the run from the very same people you used to work for. What exactly is our plan?
Liz: We see Mr. French.
Skip: I donāt know who that is.
Liz: My mother spent almost 30 years running from Neville Townsend. The only way she survived was through a network of resources that Mr. French helped her build. He was her guardian angel. I found his contact in her personal effects. He says he can help.
Skip: So weāre not starting flat-footed.
Liz: [ Chuckling ] No. Weāre starting with one of the men my mother trusted the most.
Ā
[ Oslo, Norway ]
[ Liz and Skip Hadley are parked outside an apartment complex ]
Automated Voice: Please leave a message. [ Beepš
]
Liz: Voicemail. [ Beepš
]
Skip: Maybe heās at the airport.
Liz: He said meet him at his apartment. Call him when we were down here, and he would come meet us.
Skip: So what do you wanna do?
[ Liz looks at the back seat. Agnes is coloring in a coloring book ]
[ Knocking at window ]
Liz: [ Gasps ]
[ Liz rolls down the window ] [ A woman is there ]
Mrs French: Somethingās happened. Follow me.
Ā
[ Inside an apartment ]
Mrs French: Two weeks ago, Phillip went to Stockholm on business. Said heād be two days. Two days passed, and he never returned. I called. No response. A few days later, Phillip phoned. He said he was in Washington. He said something had happened and that it wasnāt safe for me in the house. He told me there was a key taped to the bottom of his printer. It unlocked this apartment, which I didnāt even know he had. The only thing Phillip would say about his situation was that the daughter of a client was in trouble. I assume youāre the daughter.
Liz: Mrs. French, your husband, what did he tell you he does for a living?
Mrs French: Phillip was a recruiter for a data-management firm, but that was a lie, too, wasnāt it?
Liz: Iām afraid so.
Mrs French: Do you believe heās alive?
Liz: I have no idea.
Ā
[ Liz and Skip talk between themselves, some distance away from Mrs French in the apartmentās living room ]
Liz: Reddingtonās behind this. Heās not satisfied killing my mother. He has to make sure I have no access to any of her resources.
Skip: O-Okay. Slow down. W-We have money.
Liz: We need more than money, Skip. We need assets. Mr. French was gonna introduce me to the people my mother trusted. This woman doesnāt know anything.
Skip: Yeah, but w-we know nothing about her.
Liz: We know sheās scared and canāt go home. Which is why weāre not going to abandon her.
Ā
[ Liz, Skip and Agnes are prepared to leave ] [ Liz writes down her cellphone number on a piece of paper ]
Liz: Hereās my number. If you hear from your husband, if he reaches out, if you need anything at all. I know you have no reason to trust me, but I am on your husbandās side.
Mrs French: Where will you go?
Liz: I donāt know. But what I do know is Iām gonna do everything in my power to get your husband back and to keep you safe.
Agnes: Mom, Iām tired.
Liz: I know, honey. Weāre gonna go soon.
Mrs French: Why donāt you stay here?
Liz: Oh, weā
Mrs French: Thereās plenty of room. You and Agnes can take the room upstairs. YourāYour friend can have the sofa. Unless you have some place else to go.
Liz: Thatās very kind of you. [ To Agnes ] Weāre gonna stay with our friend, Agnes.
Agnes: Can you read me a story?
Liz: Oh, I canāt, honey. We didnāt bring any of our books.
Mrs French: What if I tell you a story?
Agnes: What kind of story?
Mrs French: A funny one. About a girl and her friend and the sleepover they have in a strawberry cake factory.
Agnes: That sounds awesome!
Liz: Iāll get your pajamas. Come. [ To Mrs French, whispering ] Thank you.
Ā
[ Liz and Agnes are in a bedroom with twin beds. Agnes is sleeping ]
Liz: [ Sleepily ] I wish you were here.

[ Itās Mr Kaplan, Redās former cleaner, who turned against him and committed suicide to unleash a death plan to have delivered to Liz the skeleton of the real Raymond Reddington, indicating Red is an imposter. But if youāve learned anything from my mistakes, itās that you canāt show weakness. You have to fight like Reddington, be every bit as fierce and cross whatever line it takes.
Liz: What are you saying?
Mr Kaplan: Iām saying you know what you have to do. Listen to your heart.

Liz: Skip. Wake up!
Skip: What? What?
Liz: I know what we gotta do.
Skip: Yeah, you mean sleep?
Liz: Weāre gonna take down Reddington by teaming up with the man he hates the most.
Ā
Skip: This is insane. Neville Townsend spent 30 years trying to hunt and kill your mother. Nowā Now you want him to be our partner?
Liz: We have a common enemy.
Skip: Yeah, Townsend doesnāt know that Reddingtonās N-13, okay? He thinks your motherās the one that betrayed him, and he thinks sheās dead. Why poke the bear?
Liz: Because if he knew the truth, if he knew that Reddington killed his family and framed my mother, heād hate him as much as I do. Neville Townsendās the one man other than Reddington who has the power and resources to really see this through.
Skip: Even if I agreed to this ā idea, we have no idea how to find him?
Liz: His wife and children are dead, but not his sister. Her name is Mary Bremmer. Sheās one of the very few people in Townsendās life that my mother was able to identify. If we could get to her, if we could win her trust, she might be able to put us in touch with Townsend.
Skip: You really need to go back to bed.
Liz: Skip, I know how to make this work. Ask me how we recruit her.
Skip: Iām not gonna ask you that. [ Grunts ] āā How do we recruit her?

[ Skip interviews candidates ]
Skip: So, how long did you serve?
Rocco: Two tours. Went private after that.
āā
Liz: We start with protection. People we vet.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Skip: And you ran reconnaissance planes?
Jax: As well as security detail. Sort of go where Iām needed.
āā
Liz: And at the same time, we need papers. All of us. Identities with backgrounds, travel histories, tax records, the works.
āŖ I need a hit āŖ
Ā
[ Liz and Skip share their plan with Esi Jackson, a colleague of Lizās. Sheās a former private investigator who can help produce documents ]
Esi Jackson: Okay, wait. Go back to Townsend. You said we get to him through his sister. How the hell is that supposed to work?
Liz: Well, first, we have to find her. Thereās a bounty hunter out of Bosnia, Adin Markovic. Heās supposed to be the best of the best. We find him, then he finds Bremmer.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
[ Alexander Frayne, an interpreter at The Wellstone Agency, offers payment to Markovic to find Mary Bremmer ]
Alexander Frayne: He hopes youāre happy with the results and would like to discuss his payment.
āā
Skip: Liz, Bremmerās a chemical-weapons dealer. She doesnāt trust anyone. Why would she trust, let alone agree, to help us?
Liz: She wonāt. Which is why we have to earn her trust. I was thinking of saving her life.
Skip: Is it in jeopardy?
Liz: Not that I know if, but it will be. What do you know about Alban Veseli, The Freelancer? Heās the first criminal our Task Force put away. Heās been rotting in a hole for seven years.
āā
[ Flashback: ]
Aram: Seven years ago, Veseli derailed a passenger train by making it hit a curve too fast.
āā
Liz: I thought weād use some of Reddingtonās money, hire him a new lawyer, someone we own.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Alban Veseli: Who the hell are you?
Lawyer Scooter Rovenpor: I donāt think you got a fair trial.
āā
Liz: The lawyer files an appeal, claims that the court violated his clientās 6th Amendment right to confront his accuser, who just so happens to be the FBIās confidential source, Raymond Reddington.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Judge Steven Velchek: [ To Cooper ] Youāre telling me the United States Government is willingly in business with Raymond Reddington?
āā
Skip: Okay, but the Feds are never gonna put Reddington into a courtroom.
Liz: Iām a fugitive, so Iām not gonna show up in court, either.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Judge Velchek: I ordered Agent Keen to appear. She didnāt.
āā
Skip: So, if the case agent doesnāt show and the confidential source doesnāt show, the judge would beā Well, to say the least, heād be concerned.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Judge Velchek: Oh, Iām not concerned. Iām offended. Iām granting the defendantās motion to withdraw his guilty plea, and I am forced to dismiss the charges against him.
Cooper: Donāt do this.
āā
Esi: You want to release a mass murderer in exchange for what?
[ Flashforward: ]
Skip: Miss Keen arranged for your release because she requires your services.
Alban Veseli: What does she need me to do?
āā
Liz: I want him to kill Mary Bremmer.
Skip: So you can save her.
Liz: We get The Freelancer out of jail. In exchange, he goes after Bremmer.
Esi: Heās never gonna kill Bremmer because weāre gonna grab her.
Skip: I like it. Except you told me that The Freelancer hides his assassinations by masking them as mass-casualty accidents.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Cooper: There are 162 passengers on board, and heāll kill everyone.
Agent Park: Wait. I thought The Freelancer was going after Reddington.
āā
Liz: Iām gonna backchannel information through the Task Force and make sure no one gets hurt and The Freelancer goes back to prison where he belongs.
Esi: Go back to Bremmer. You pull her off the street, that woman aināt gonna be happy.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
[ Mary Bremmer, Neville Townsendās sister, has been abducted by Lizās people and is being kept in a cell. She pounds ā”ļøā”ļøā”ļø on the window of the door ]
Mary Bremmer: I want to talk to her! Do you hear me?!
āā
Liz: After I explain to her that I not only saved her life, plucked her out of the arms of the awaiting FBI, she might change her tune.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Liz: Mary. My people didnāt grab you to hurt you. They grabbed you in an effort to save your life.
āā
Liz: In fact, she may even thank me by offering to make an introduction to her brother, Neville Townsend.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Jax: [ To Liz ] Bremmer says sheās thought about it. Sheās willing to reach out to her brother, see if she can make an introduction.
[ Here ends the discussion of Lizās plan with Skip and Esi to recruit assets ]
Ā
[ Now begins a parallel account from Lizās perspective of prior episodes, beginning with Episode 8:9 The Cyranoid ā ]
[ Neville Townsend meets with Lizās Cyranoid, an operative technically geared up to see, hear and speak for Liz ]
[ Townsend reads the letter from Liz explaining the arrangement ]
Neville Torwnsend: [ Static ] Well, Miss āKeen. This is certainly unprecedented. Whereās Mary?
Liz, through her Cyranoid: In FBI custody.
Townsend: She took her, what, to hurt me?
Lizās Cyranoid: Talk to me, Neville. Iām right here. Iām looking right at you.
Townsend: Why did you take my sister?
Lizās Cyranoid: Because I had no way to reach you. Taking your sister forced her to make contact, to negotiate her safe return āand to get this face-to-face meeting with you. I had nothing to ā do with todayās capture.
Townsend, No? Youāre an FBI agent.
Lizās Cyranoid: Not anymore, Iām not. The FBI canāt help me. You can.
Ā
[ In the room where Liz is running her Cyranoid through her computer, the Apparition of Mr Kaplan appears ]
Mr Kaplan: Youāre doing well, Elizabeth. Stay strong. Heāll say yes.
[ Liz takes off the earphones and microphone connecting her to the Cyranoid ]
Liz: I donāt know if I can do this. This animal hunted my mother.
Mr Kaplan: Of course you can. You know that. What you donāt know is how ugly he really is.
How vicious he can be. Heāll want to know youāre capable of doing what needs to get done. Heāll want to test you.
Liz: What do you mean, test?
āā
[ Liz goes back online to talk to Townsend through her Cyranoid ]
Townsend: What youāve done, coming here like this, itās so audacious. But if I were to even consider an alliance, Iād need to know, w-without question, that I can trust you.
Liz (through her Cyranoid): You can trust me.
Townsend: I hope so. Which is why Iām going to give you an opportunity to prove it.
Liz: What do you mean?
Townsend: It means youāre going to earn my trust by killing my sister.
Liz: I just saved your sister. Iām not a murderer.
Townsend: She knows too much. Sheās made herself a liability.
Liz: Sheās your sister.
Townsend: You canāt beat Reddington without me. Thatās why youāre here. You need me on your team. This is my price. Are you willing to pay it?
Mr Kaplan: You have to do it.
Liz: Iā
Mr Kaplan: Reddington would in a heartbeat.
Liz: I canāt. I canāt.
Mr Kaplan: Heād see it as nothing more than a transaction required to close a business relationship.
Liz:This is a womanās life weāre talking about.
[ Mr Kaplan stands next to the video image of Neville Townsend ]
Kaplan: I know how difficult this is for you, but I also know what happens if you donāt see this through.
I failed because I wasnāt willing to play by Raymondās rules. You canāt make that same mistake. Dearie, you have to redefine who you are, what you are willing to become. If you have any hope of unseating Reddington, youāre going to have to become just as ruthless. So, either walk away now, or shove your feelings down and get it done with. Besides, sheās no angel. The woman brokers chemical weapons.
Townsend: So ā whatās it gonna be?
Liz: [ Exhales sharply ]
āā
[ Keypad beepingš
] [ The door of Mary Bremmerās holding cell unlocks. Lizās Cynanoid enters ]
Mary Bremmer: How did you get in here? What are we doing here? Does Neville have people on the way?
[ Lizās Cyranoid strangles Mary Bremmer to death as Liz watches ]
Mary Bremmer: [ Choking ]
āā
[ Liz takes off the headset, rushes to a sink and vomits. She lifts her head to confront her image in a mirror ]
Ā
[ Liz phones Townsend ]
[ Phone beepsš
, speed-dialing ] [ Line ringingāØ, click āµ ]
Liz: Itās done.
Townsend: What wonderful news. Nice work, Agent Keen. It looks like youāve found yourself a partner in crime.
Ā
[ New York City ]
[ Liz visits Neville Townsend in person ~ no Cyranoid ]
Liz: Reddington is N-13.
Townsend: So you say.
Liz: He framed my mother.
Townsend: An assertion I want to believe, but need to prove. Elizabeth, we are not going to kill him without asking questions first about the Archive, what he plans to do with it. That is something I need to fully understand.
Liz: How did it happen? Your family.
Townsend: Letās not do this.
Liz: Is it true thatās why you donāt sleep? What did Reddington do to you? I know the Vory ran drugs through your ports. I know you paid the KBG to look the other way.
Townsend: Elizabeth.
Liz: I know the documents N-13 stole detailed that cover-up. But what happened when that was exposed? What on earth could they have possibly done to you?
[ Townsend sits down ]
Townsend: My ports lined the pockets of some very powerful Russians. When our business was exposed, they lost not only careers, but their fortunes. The Vory knew the authorities had reached out to me. They were pressuring me to testify against them in exchange for immunity.
Liz: They made an example of you.
Townsend: By ā subjecting me to a fate worse than death.
Liz: They went after your family.
Townsend: I was ā I was asleep for most of it. Woke to the sound of my wife whimpering. When I got downstairs, my eldest was already gone. My youngest, he ā was taking his last breaths. Their mother had been forced to watch the whole ordeal. Then I was forced to watch them slaughter her. I spent 30 years believing the documents your mother stole sparked the fire that burned my life to the ground, and every KGB informant and asset I can buy believes the same thing. But if youāre right, if Reddington is
N-13, I need him to confirm it. I need to know he has the Archive, what he intends to do with it. I need to know his endgame. I need to know ā why my family had to die.
Liz: He wonāt talk.
Townsend: We will kill him, Elizabeth.
Liz: Heās not afraid of death.
Townsend: Perhaps not, but he will talk.
Liz: So, we, what? Grab him?
Townsend: You help lure him out. Through a friend, someone he trusts.
Liz: And then we talk.
Townsend: And then ā we kill him.
Liz: Weāre gonna need a familiar face to gain access. I think I know just the guy.
Ā
[ Liz approaches Max Ruddiger, Redās master of munitions ]
Ruddiger: We talked about this.
Liz: I know, Ruddiger, but things have changed.
Ruddiger: Nothing has changed.
Liz: I have a partner.
Ruddiger: My position hasnāt changed. Raymond is my friend. Heās like a brother. He has seen me through two wives and four stints in rehab. I will never betray him.
Liz: Hear me out.
Ruddiger: I am leaving.
Liz: Just please ā
Ruddiger: I should never have come. Iām only here ācause you tricked me into coming.
Liz: Ruddiger, please.
Ruddiger: Piss off!
Liz: Donāt go out that door!
Ruddiger: Itās not just me. Redās people are not for sale.
Ā
[ Ruddiger opens the door to exit, but on the other side Neville Townsend and his men are waiting ]
Neville Townsend: Elizabeth insisted on talking to you first. I donāt like talk.
Ruddiger: No! Elizabeth, what have you done?!
[ Townsendās men quickly overwhelm Ruddiger ]
Ruddiger: Tell him to stop it! Stop! Stop! [ Grunting ]
Townsend: Youāre going to call Reddington, and youāre going to set a meeting.
Ruddiger: Let go!
Townsend: Youāre gonna do exactly as I say.
Ruddiger: The hell I am!
Townsend: I appreciate your dedication to your friend, but youāve obviously never met my friend. Her name is Dr. Perillos.
[ Dr Laken Perillos steps forward ]
Townsend: Doctor, our friend here seems to be something of a bomb-maker. I think you should start with his fingers.
Ruddiger: Oh, no. No. No! N-o-o-o-o!
Ā
[ Red arrives at Ruddigerās lab in a warehouse ]
Red: What the hell happened to your hand?
Ruddiger: Oh, uh, car door. I was cooked. Nearly lost my pinky.
Red: You gotta be careful, Max. I need you with all 10 digits. What did you find?
Ruddiger: Ah, partial print on the Tamiya connector.
[ Dembe takes the plastic bag with the print ]
Dembe: Iāll get it to Cvetko.
Ruddiger: Who could do this, Raymond? Not Elizabeth, Iām sure.
āā
[ Liz is parked and watching from a car some distance away. Dembe exits from the warehouse to call Cvetko, a lab analyst who works with Red ]
Liz: This is a mistake.
Apparition of Mr Kaplan: Donāt second-guess yourself.
Liz: Iām crossing lines Iām no longer comfortable with.
Mr Kaplan: Yes, but you have to match his single-minded devotion. Youāll fail if you donāt.
[ Liz rubs the scar on her wrist ]
Mr Kaplan: You tell people you got it when you were 14. Why is that?
Liz: To hide the truth?
[ Images flash by from Lizās childhood: the fire consuming the Christmas tree, the gunshotš„ she fired that killed her father ]
Liz: Was he there that night?
Mr Kaplan: You know that, dearie. Just like you know that that scar isnāt only part of your past. Itās the key to your future.
[ Liz looks at the Y-shaped scar on her wrist and palm. She remembers finding Tomās āgo boxā in the very first episode. The idiosyncratic shape of the scar was deeply engraved into the boxās wooden cover. Like a talisman, the scarās shape has popped up in several unlikely places ]
Liz: What does that mean?
Ā
[ Townsendās men drive up in a van ] [ā”ļøTires screechā”ļø]
[ Red and Dembe are ambushed ] [ š„š„š„ Gunfire š„š„š„ ]
Dembe: Raymond, go! Go! Go, go, go!
[ š„š„š„ š„š„š„ Gunfightš„š„š„ š„š„š„ ]
[ One of Townsendās men comes up behind Dembe ] [ Gun cocks ]
Townsendās man: Where is he?! Reddington!
Dembe: I donāt know.
[ Gun clatters ] [ Dembe is forced into the van ]
Liz: Wait. Dembe? No.
[ Liz begins to start the car ] [ Mr Kaplan grabs her arm ]
Mr Kaplan: Itās a transaction. Itās nothing more than a transaction.
Ā
[ Neville Townsendās New York mansion ]
[ Liz walks briskly down a hallway ahead of Vandyke, to see Townsend ]
Liz: Heās a friend.
Vandyke: Heās a body man.
Liz: Dembe was never the target, and you know that.
Vandyke: Well, your other friend Ruddiger screwed up and we had to improvise, so put this on him.
Liz: Is he with Perillos?
Vandyke: That is not my business.
[ Liz walks up to Townsend ]
Liz: If Dembe Zuma is with that butcher, if sheās hurt him, so help me God ā
Townsend: Heās fine. Dembeās fine.
Liz: What do you mean heās fine? I was told Perillos was working on him.
Townsend: She was. And she would have continued, had he not escaped.
Liz: He escaped. But ā VanDyke told me Perillos āwas with the subject. You wanted me to watch. Watch what?
Townsend: Our new subject. The one who surrendered himself.
Ā
[ The video feed from Dr Perilloās torture chamber is turned on ]
[ The new victim is Red who had offered to exchange himself for Dembe. Even though Townsend told Dr Perillos to free Dembe, she was enjoying the torture too much. Struggling with her, the arm of his chair broke loose and he escaped. Dembe had called Red immediately, but it was too late. Red is now being subjected to a paralyzing virus that will asphyxiate him if he doesnāt tell Townsend what he wants to know about the Sikorsky Archive ]
Red: Not everything you thought it would be, is it? This moment? Youāve waited for it ā
and somehow, itās ā dissatisfying.
Townsend: It actually exceeds expectation.
Red: [ Bresthless, distressed ] I wasnāt talking to you. We know who my assassin really is. Donāt we, Elizabeth? It saddens me to bear witness to this moment in your life, this crossing of a Rubicon from which you can never get back. It may appear self-serving to suggest that you instruct the good doctor to administer the antidote, but I strongly suggest that you do just that, because Iāve seen the other side of that river, and itās a place I never, never wanted you to go. But perhaps youāre already there.
[ The Apparition of Mr Kaplan places her hand on Lizās shoulder ]
Mr Kaplan: Yes, Raymond. Sheās already there. And sheās strong. And sheās ready for what comes next.
[ Liz sits, while Mr Kaplan, Vandyke, Blake Brown, and other household members stand behind her ]
Ā
[ Later, Liz is alone with Townsend ]
Townsend: Reddington was wrong about you. We both were.He thought you hadnāt crossed the Rubicon. I was under the impression that you had.
[ Liz sees that Red is gone from the torture room ]
Liz: Where is he?
Townsend: You tell me. You tell me!
Liz: I have no idea.
Townsend: You see this?
[ Liz shows Liz the bloody sack that Townsend has tortured Ruddiger by using him as a punching bag ]
Townsend: This belongs to your pal, Ruddiger. A little reminder of what happens when you fail me.
Liz: I didnāt fail you. Iām the one who got you Reddington! Youāre the one who lost him!
Townsend: You came to me promising to make Reddington suffer.
Liz: I promised to give you the opportunity to kill him. You couldāve put a bullet in his head. Instead, you put a needle in his arm, and you gave him the one thing you shouldnāt have ā time ā And he used it to get away.
Townsend: I told you I wanted answers. I thought you understood what that entailed.
Liz: If youāre upset because I didnāt sit and watch you torture him, let me be clear. It sickens me. But I am doing it because I know more than anyone in the world that it has to be done.
Townsend: There can be no space between what you want to happen and what youāre willing to do to make it happen.
[ Suddenly, the phantasmagoric Mr Kaplan is standing alongside Townsend ]
Liz: So you keep telling me.
Ā
[ Liz is alone ]
[ Cellphone vibrates ] [ Beepš
]
Ressler [ On recorded phone message ]: Hey, Keen, itās me. Look, we have Rakitin thanks to you and that flash drive you sent Cooper. If Reddingtonās really N-13, we have a good chance of proving it. And if we can, maybe you can come home. Thatās all I care about, Liz. I mean, no, maybe you canāt be an agent again, but at least you can get your life back. You and Agnes can be together. We got to talk, figure out how to end this. Iām gonna be at Bentham Park at midnight. Meet me there. And, Keen, you can trust me.
[ Cellphone beepsš
]
Liz: [ Sighs ]
Ā
[ Liz is in her car. Itās dark ]
Agnes: [ On phone ] Are you coming home tonight?
Liz: Not tonight, honey. But my being away so much, I think itās about to end.
[ Liz sees Ressler sit down on a bench across the street in Bentham Park ]
Liz: Is Mrs. French reading āThe Phantom Tollboothā to you?
Agnes: Weāre almost done. Itās really good.
[ Cellphone vibrates ]
Liz: Well, you finish up and tell me all about it when I get home, okay? I love you.
Agnes: Love you, too.
[ Another cellphone on the dashboard vibrates. Liz grabs it ]
[ Suddenly, the Apparition of Mr Kaplan is sitting next to Liz ]
Mr Kaplan: Donāt answer that.
Liz: He could have good news.
Mr Kaplan: You should not be talking to the FBI. You cannot take that call.
[ Liz takes the call ]
Ressler: Hey, Keen, itās me. Uh, I donāt even know if youāre getting these messages. I donāt know who Iām talking to.
[ Now no one appears sitting next to Liz in the car, but she still talks to Mr Kaplan ]
Liz: [ To Mr Kaplan ] Ressler says the Task Force has a source. His name is Rakitin, and heās willing to talk. If he does, he could expose Reddington as N-13. He could end all of this.
[ Mr Kaplan reappears ]
Mr Kaplan: I wish that were true. But you donāt need to hear his message to know thatās not the case.
Ressler [ On recorded phone message ]: Look. Rakitinās dead. I donāt know how, but ā It seems like he was poisoned. ⦠I mean, we really thought it was over this time. We miss you. We just want you back.
[ Lizās car engine starts. The car pulls out and drives away ]
Ā
[ Mrs Frenchās apartment ]
Liz: I told her it was over, that Iād be coming home for good.
Mrs French: Youāre doing the best you can.
Liz: Iām responsible for Mary Bremmerās murder, Dembeās torture, and I got nothing to show for it, except for another reminder that no matter how tight the noose, Reddington will always cheat the hangman.
Mrs French: I heard from the police today. They found my husbandās body. They say he died of natural causes. But you know differently.
Liz: Iām so sorry.
Mrs French: Phillip was a good man. Whatever he was doing, he was doing because he believed it was the right thing to do. I donāt need sympathy. I need justice. Youāre the one who can get it for me.
Liz: I tried. For all of us. I donāt think I can keep trying.
Mrs French: I understand. You thought you could end this. You couldnāt.
Liz: You donāt know who weāre dealing with.
Mrs French: But I do know this ā Good triumphs over evil.
Liz: I just donāt think I have what itāll take.
Mrs French: Of course you do. Every mother does. The love for her child. Isnāt that what saved you?
Liz: Yes.
Mrs French: Didnāt you tell me your mother gave up everything for you?
Liz: Yes.
Mrs French: Donāt you think you should pay that forward?
Liz: Of course. But I donāt know how.
Mrs French: Youāll figure it out.
Liz: How can you be so sure?
Mrs French: Because love wins.
[ Liz once told Red that āLove winsā was her personal motto ]
Liz: You really believe that?
Mrs French: I do. And seeing how you are with Agnes, I believe you do, too.
Ā
[ Liz pays a visit to Dembeās daughter, Isabella ]
[ Knock on door ] [ Isabella opens the door ]
Isabella: Elizabeth.
Liz: Isabella, hi.
Isabella: Is my father okay?
Liz: Dembeās fine. But I did come because I think he could use your help.
[ Photos of Isabellaās daughter are on a table ]
Liz: Thank God she was too young to remember what happened to her.
Isabella: I dread the day when I have to tell her.
Liz: Do you have to?
Isabella: I believe in the truth. When sheās ready to hear it, Iāll tell her.
Liz: Are you going to tell her the truth about your father?
Isabella: You said he needs our help?
Liz: He needs our protection. From Reddington.
Isabella: Did he tell you that?
Liz: No. He loves Reddington, but that love is based on a lie, one that Iām not even sure he knows about. Reddington isnāt who he says he is. I believe ā The Bureau believes ā Reddington may be a Russian asset.
Isabella: What?
Liz: But we need proof, and with your help, we can get it.
Isabella: So youāre not here to help my father. Youāre here to help yourself.
Liz: Iām here to help us both, but most importantly, Iām here to help our daughters. Sheās beautiful. Sheās innocent. And one day, when sheās ready, youāre gonna tell her that when she was an infant, she was abducted, used as collateral so someone could get to your father. And youāre gonna tell her as if it could never happen again. But you and I both know as long as Reddington is in our lives, that isnāt true.
Isabella: I wonāt hurt my father.
Liz: I would never ask you to.
Isabella: What do you want me to do?
Liz: I need you to call your father, tell him you want to see him.
Isabella: I havenāt seen him in months.
Liz: All the better. You miss him. You want him to spend time with Elle.
āā
[ Flashforward: ]
Isabella: Hi. Itās me.
āā
Liz: Once youāve set a meeting, I need you to plant this device.
[ Liz show Isabella a tiny listening device ]
Isabella: What do you want to hear him say?
Liz: Nothing. I want to hear what Reddington says to him.
Isabella: You really think this will help?
Liz: I think, with any luck, we can figure out what Reddingtonās up to.
Ā
[ A playground ] [ Playful shouting ]
Dembe: Sheās gotten so big.
Isabella: I know. Can you believe it?
Dembe: Iām glad you called.
Isabella: We miss you, Dad.
Dembe: Do you? I wasnāt sure.
Isabella: Of course we do.
[ They hug. Isabella plants the listening device under the collar of Dembeās parka ]
Ā
[ Liz sits in her car, listening in on Dembe and Red talking ]
Dembe: Your heart can betray you. How many times have you told me that?
Red: Anne is not betraying me.
[ Liz writes down āAnneā ]
Dembe: Weāve run no names. Done no background checks.
Red: On the good people of Cottonwood Falls? Believe me, if youāre lucky, you might find a late fee for āTom Sawyerā at the local library.
[ Liz writes down āCottonwood Fallsā ]
Dembe: Youāre letting your guard down.
Red: Thatās not what Iām doing. ā Okay. It is what Iām doing. But Iām having a splendid time doing it.
[ Red scrunches Dembeās arms as he walks past him ]
Red: [ Exasperated ] Ugh.
Ā
[ Anne walks to her car in Cottonwood Falls and gets in ] [ Indistinct shouting ]
[ Liz is parked in the same parking lot ]
[ Liz places a call ]
Liz: Hey. Itās me. Tell Townsend I know how we can get to Reddington.
[ Engine starts ] [ Anneās truck starts to back out ] [ā”ļøTires screechā”ļø] [ Lizās car rams Anneās truck š„ ]
[ Both Liz and Anne get out of their vehicles ]
Anne: I am so sorry. Are you okay?
Liz: No, I should have seen you backing out.
Anne: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. It was my fault.
[ Anne looks at the damage ]
Anne: Itās not that bad.
Liz: Let me give you my insurance. [ Sighs ] If we were in the city, youād be screaming at me.
Anne: Oh. Youāre not from here?
Liz: Uh, Kansas City. I, uh ā I rented a place on Chase Lake. I just came into town to get some supplies. Iām Cindi.
Anne: Hi, Cindi. Iām Anne.
[ Anne shows Liz her driverās license ]
Liz: [ Reading ] Anne Foster of 429 Roslyn Place.
[ Liz snaps a photo of Anneās license with her phone ]
Anne: Thatās it. Oh, let me give you my cell, too. If those insurance people give you any trouble, I want you to give me a call, okay?
Liz: Okay. Seriously, if Iād known youād be this nice, I wouldāve run into you on purpose.
Anne: Ohh. You take care.
Liz: You, too. Iām sorry again.
Anne: Thatās okay.
āā
[ Liz gets into her car and makes a call ]
[ Keypad dialing ] [ Line ringingāØ]
Liz: Iām gonna give you an address.
Ā
[ Anne, Lois and Bran are at Anneās. They are expecting Red to join them for a game of bridge, but heās late ]
Lois: Iām not saying itās up there with a nice smile or a nice ass.
Bran: But ā
Lois: I think punctuality is sexy.
[ Doorbell ringsāØ]
Anne: Oh. Nice smile, nice ass, and on time. May I present to you ā the sexiest man alive ā
[ Anne opens the door ]
Anne: [ Gasps ]
[ Itās not Red. Itās Liz, with a layer cake ]
Liz: Anne! Hey. Cindi. From the accident.
Anne: Of course. Iām sorry.
Liz: I just brought this by to thank you for being so nice about what happened.
Anne: Did you bake me a cake?
Liz: I hope you like red velvet. [[ Megan Booneās favorite ]]
Anne: Oh, you are too thoughtful. Come in. Some friends and I are about to play some bridge.
Liz: No, I just came to drop that off. I donāt want to intrude.
[ Soft jazz playing on stereo ] [ Liz walks toward the staircase. She hangs a video recording device on the base of a lamp at the bottom of the staircase ]
Liz: Cute drawings!
Anne: Oh, thank you. You sure you donāt want to stay for a bit? To have a drink?
Liz: No. [ Chuckling ] Iām sure weāll bump into each other again soon. Bye.
[ Liz leaves out the front door ]
Lois: So much for the sexiest man alive. Iām just saying I like punctuality.
Bran: Maybe his plane was delayed.
Lois: So, why hasnāt he called yet?
āā
[ Liz monitors the video feed from Anneās house: ]
[ Red opens the back door ]
Red: Only because I like to make a dramatic entrance.
Bran: Raymond! Hey.
[ Soft jazz playing ]
Red: I hope youāll go easy on me tonight.
Bran: Youāll do fine. Gin and tonic?
Red: Yes.
Bran: Weāve gotten a head stā
Ā
[ The next morning. Anneās kitchen ]
Anne: I found two pairs and a blanket.
Red: I found salami and cheese.
Anne: Iāll get a basket for the food and weāre good to go.
āā
[ Liz is on the phone. The live feed from Anneās house plays in the background ]
Liz: Yeah, the friendās gone. Itās just him and the girlfriend. We gotta do this now.
[ Townsend is in an SUV ]
Townsend: Weāre on our way. Have Arkham kill the power and land lines.
[ Liz is receiving the video feed from inside the āChase County Water and Powerā van which Red had seen in town the day before and which is now parked outside of Anneās house ]
[ Arkham puts a gun into his work bag and gets out of the van ]
Townsend: And, Liz, remember to try and enjoy the moment.
Liz: Just get here before he senses somethingās wrong.
Ā
[ Red looks out of the window. He notices the utility van and becomes suspicious ]
[ Anne has just retrieved two pairs of binoculars for their planned day of birdwatching ]
Anne: ⦠What were you saying?
Red: Didnāt you say there was an excellent vegan sandwich shop in town? Why donāt you run into town, order for both of us? Iāll be ready to go when you get back.
Anne: Are you sure?
[ Anne leaves the house ] [ Door closes ]
[ Truck door closes, engine starts ] [ Anne drives off ]
āā
[ Arkham is around the back of the house ]
[ Liz sees Red come outside to see whatās going on ]
Liz: No. No, no, no, no, no.
āā
Red: Hey, there. ⦠What seems to be the problem?
Arkham: ⦠I just gotta check your ground wires. Itās standard.
Red: Okay. Very good. Vague but detailed enough. ā¦
Arkham: Not sure what you mean.
[ Redās look darkens ]
Red: You know what I mean.
Arkham: ⦠I got the work order right here.
Red: Great.
[ Arkham unzips his work bag. Red sees the gun inside. He stabs Arkham in the gut with a chefās knife from the kitchen ] [ BladešŖplunges ]
Arkham: Ugh!
[ Red grabs Arkham from behind, and holds the knife at his throat ]
Red: How many are coming?
Arkham: āā Everyone.
[ Red slices Arkhamās throat and lets him fall. He grabs the gun from the bag and walks around the side of the house with the gun on full display. Liz gets into the driverās seat and The āWater and Powerā van takes off ] [ Tires squealing ] [ā”ļøTires screechā”ļø]
Ā
[ Red hurries to fetch Anne from the vegan sandwich shop ]
Anne: Raymond, what are you doing here? If you needed something else, you couldāve called me.
Red: I need you to come with me.
āā
[ Liz returns to Anneās house after Red leaves. Townsend and Vandyke are there ]
Liz: Weāve got to call it off. Did you hear me? He knows. Reddington knows weāre here.
Townsend: That changes nothing.
Liz: Weāll have other opportunities.
Vandyke: There was an incident in town, but they have eyes on Reddington.
Townsend: What kind of incident?
Vandyke: Landon. Sheās gone.
Townsend: And Reddington?
Vandyke: He took the woman and went into the local police station.
āā
[ Liz turns to address the Apparition of Mr Kaplan ]
Liz: No. I know what youāre thinking. They canāt do this. Innocent people will get hurt.
[ Mr Kaplan just looks at Liz ]
āā
Townsend: Oh, Raymond. You do keep things interesting.
Vandyke: How you wanna handle this?
Townsend: Put Sagan on the police scanners and have him give us a timeframe. If weāre going to do this, itās gonna happen now.
Liz: Youāve got to call it off. There are too many innocent people.
Townsend: Donāt you think maybe thatās why heās there?
Liz: You canāt attack a police station!
Townsend: No space. Remember? Between what you want and what youāre willing to do to get it.
Liz: Innocent people will get killed.
Townsend: No space. None.
[ Mr Kaplan just looks at Liz ]

āā
[ Flashback: ]
[ Lois runs out of the police station to retrieve the keys to the holding cell from the body of Officer Brandt, who has killed earlier in the assault ]
Red: No, no, no!
[ Lois is shot in the thigh, but she, Red and Anne make it to the cell just ahead of Townsend ]
āā
āŖ Are you willing to go
Before you reach all āŖ
āā
Liz: Innocent people. Killed and wounded.
āā
[ Flashback: ]
[ Red talks to Townsend through the cracked bulletproof glass of the cell ]
Red: Take your men and your guns and your bloodshed and go. Then come find me when youāre ready, and Iāll show you the proper way to exact revenge.
āā
[ Townsend listens to Liz from another vehicle ]
Liz: And for what? Nothing. Iām listening to the police scanner. Heās gone. They have no idea where.
āā
[ Anne lets Red gets out of the trunk of the car where he was hiding, thanks to help from Lois ]
āā
Townsend: I did what I had to do. You didnāt.
āā
Anne: The man who came after you today ā
Red: Neville Townsend.
Anne: He wonāt stop, will he?
[ Red shakes his head āNoā ]
āā
Liz: Youāre right. There is space for me. Between what I want and what Iām willing to do to get it.
Townsend: Thatās unacceptable.
Liz: Well, then maybe Iāll keep Reddington all to myself.
Townsend: You said he was gone.
Liz: He is. But I think I know how to find him.
[ Call ends ] [ Mr Kaplan is sits next to Liz ]
Mr Kaplan: Townsend was there, and he canāt see it ā The magic trick, how Raymond got away. You werenāt there, but you know how he did it. Because itās what you would have done.
[ Liz smiles at Mr Kaplan ]
āŖ This means war, this means war āŖ
Red: Is there somewhere you can go? And not to your daughterās. Theyāll anticipate that.
Anne: My friend Cindi, the one who made the cake. She has a cabin.
Red: See if you can go there.
āā
[ After Red leaves, Anne calls someone, likely her daughter ]
Anne: Okay, sweetie. Iāll call you as soon as I know more. I love you. Be safe.
Ā
[ Knock on door ] [ Anne looks around. She grabs a knife from the counter ]
[ Knock on door ]
āŖ Where to āŖ
Anne: Who is it?
Liz: Anne? Itās me, Cindi.
Anne: Oh. Oh, thank God. I was just about to call you.
Liz: Are you okay? The whole town is talking about what happened.
Anne: It was awful. The whole thing. It was just ā I have this friend. With me, heās kind and decent, but heās done some terrible things, and terrible people are after him.
Liz: Where is he ā Your friend?
Ā
[ Red is driving on his way out of town ] [ He fiddles with the car radio ]
Man on radio: ā another 10 days, uh ā [ Click āµ ]
Woman on radio: ā starting to ā [ Click āµ ]

Red: [ Chuckles ]
āŖ Iām old enough to face the dawn
Just call me angel of the morning, angel āŖ
[ Red flashes back to scenes of being with Anne ]
Red: Ah ā
āŖ Just touch my cheek before you leave me āŖ
[ Red does a sudden U-turn ]
Ā
Anne: He says the people that are after him may come after me, and thatās why I was gonna call you. Your cabin. No one will look for me there. If I could just stay there, even just for a few days ā
Liz: I-I wish that were possible. I really do. And maybe it can be, after you help me find Reddington.
[ Liz takes out her gun, but doesnāt point it at Anne ]
Liz: I need to know where he is.
āŖ Maybe the sunās light will be dim āŖ
Anne: [ Gasps ] Youāre one of them.
[ The Apparition of Mr Kaplan returns ]
Mr Kaplan: Yes.
Liz: No. But we do want the same thing.
Anne: He left. I donāt know where he went.
[ Knock on door ]
āŖ Well, it was what I wanted now āŖ
[ Door opens ]
Red: Anne? Annie ā
āŖ And if weāre victims of the night āŖ
[ Liz grabs Anneās arm and sticks her gun at Anneās side ]
Red: Elizabeth.
Liz: Go on. Donāt let me stop you.
Red: Put the gun down.
Liz: Whyād you come back? What do you want?
āŖ Of the morning, angel āŖ
Liz: Do you want to tell her who you really are?
Anne: Raymond ā
Red: Itās okay. Just stay calm.
āŖ Just call me angel āŖ
Liz: You and Kate underestimate me.
Red: Oh, so sheās here, too.
Liz: Do you see her?
Red: I do, without even having to look.
[ Mr Kaplanās phantasm stands alongside Liz ]
Liz: His true identity is a secret, Anne. Heās never told me who he really is.
āŖ If morningās echo says weāve sinned āŖ
Liz: Maybe he will now, as a deathbed confession.
[ Liz points the gun at Red ]
Red: Let her go. She doesnāt have to be here for this.
Liz: Finally. We agree on something.
[ Anne throws herself at Liz. They struggle ] [ Grunting ]
Red: Anne!
[ Red runs toward them ]
[ Liz pushes Anne away. Anne falls, her headā”ļøhittingā”ļøthe coffee table, shattering the glass and leaving blood on the corner. She rolls onto her back ]
āŖ I wonāt be blinded by the light
Just call me angel āŖ
Red: Anne! Anne. Here.
[ Red flattens his cap and slides it under her head. Ignoring the fact Liz still has a gun, Red crouches over Anne, holding her face in his hands ]
Red: Hold on. Donāt move. Donāt move. Yeah. All right.
[ Anne is conscious but a pool of blood is forming under her head ]
Red: Just breathe. Hold on. Just hold on.
āŖ Baby Just call me angel of the morning, angel āŖ
[ Red dials 911 ]
Red: Yes. I-I need an ambulance. Thereās been an accident at 429 Roslyn Place.
Mr Kaplan: [ To Liz ] This is your moment.
Red: Yes ā
Mr Kaplan: Donāt hesitate. Raymond wouldnāt.
[ Liz looks at Red and Anne, almost in wonderment ]
Red: Anne, look at me. Stay with me. Look at me. Just focus on me. Look at me. Thatās it. Stay with me.
[ Liz unlocks the gunās safety ]
Mr Kaplan: Thatās it. Pull the trigger. End this now.
Red: Stay with me.
Mr Kaplan: You canāt get your life back until you do.
Red: Stay with me. Stay with me. Anne. Anne.
[ The pool of blood widens ]
āŖ Baby, baby Just call me angel of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby āŖ

I need a hit (fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa)
I need a hit of nutrition
I need a fix (fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa)
I need to fix my ignition (fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa)
If you want to whip me into shape (fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa)
I need a plan or a mission (fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa)[Chorus]
āŖ Cause Iām gonna ride fast, going nowhere
And I left my brain in the past
Iām gonna ride fast
To where I donāt careš¹ Return to where this song occurs in script above

ā« How Low
By José Gonzalez⪠How low are you willing to go
Before you reach all your selfish goals
Punch line after punch line
Leaving us sore, leaving us soreāŖ Absorbed in your ill hustling
Feeding a monster, just feeding a monster
Invasion after invasion
This means war, this means warāŖ Someday youāll be up to your knees
In the shit you see
All the gullible that you mislead
Wonāt be up for itāŖ Where to, will you relocate
Now that itās war, now that itās warš¹ Return to where this song occurs in script above

ā« Angel of the Morning
By Merrilee RushāŖ Thereāll be no strings to bind your hands
Not if my love canāt bind your heart
And thereās no need to take a stand
For it was I who chose to start
I see no need to take me home
Iām old enough to face the dawnāŖ Just call me angel of the morning, (angel)
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, (angel)
Then slowly turn awayāŖ Maybe the sunās light will be dim
And it wonāt matter anyhow
If morningās echo says weāve sinned
Well, it was what I wanted now
And if weāre victims of the night
I wonāt be blinded by the lightāŖ Just call me angel of the morning, (angel)
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, (angel)
Then slowly turn away
I wonāt beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the day, of the years
Baby, baby, baby
Just call me angel of the morning, (angel)š¹ Return to where this song occurs in script above
